I haven't seen a collapse like this since Kentucky went into the locker room at halftime up 35-10 over Southern Mississippi in 2016.

Anytime you compare a high school football team to UK, it probably would not be complimentary.

I went to bed and it was 27-0 Raceland

Woke up at 2 am and saw this and wanted to throw up ?

Total disbelief. What happened?

Divine intervention in the middle of the 3Q and Pikeville got a little Mac dust sprinkled on them in the locker room.

The Panthers raised their level, Raceland did not, a couple of successful onside kicks, some costly flags against Raceland, and the Rams were probably too conservative once they got up four scores and lost all momentum. That's more or less the gist of it.

Probably started with “it ain’t over until we say it is. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?”

The onside kicks are the key. Those are turnovers and a short field for the recovering team.

After signing off last night, this is the most surprising thread of the morning.  I had to check the calendar to make sure it isn’t April 1st.

I just watched the ending of the game (last 16 minutes or so) on Mountain Top Sports’ Facebook page. I see where some fans were disgruntled about officiating communication, but fact is Raceland was outplayed over that stretch. All credit to them, they have a very good team again. Some head scratching coaching decisions from their staff but they’re paid and I’m not. Fans got their moneys worth for sure.

Might be the best BGP post of all time.

How did the last minutes transpire? Pikeville recover an onside and score on a Hail Mary?

Watch the whole thing unfold, condensed into 24 minutes. If you just want the go-ahead touchdown sequence, skip to the 21:30 mark of the video.

From Pikeville's chief play caller, OC Daniel Harmon:

Thirty-five unanswered points in a quarter and a half against the #1 team in the class. This is such a Pikeville thing to do to Raceland.

Even more amazing about that quarter and a half run, Raceland got a stop on downs after one of the onside kicks was recovered by Pikeville.

Great showing from Pikeville, what incredible resilience! You have to give Pikeville even more credit when you consider how young they are, showing mental toughness at that caliber. We're talking about a team that has had no seniors throw or run the ball, only one that has posted receptions, and only one of their top five leading tacklers are in their senior season. That is a great win to be proud of, and coming over a rival that everybody knows is no pushover is what makes this such a great victory for Pikeville. They will have tremendous opportunities over the next couple of weeks against Johnson Central and Belfry. Excited to continue to keep up with Pikeville over the course of the season. Always does a great job representing EKY!

As for Raceland, this is disappointing for them but can be a great lesson/learning experience. Just think of it this way, going back to 2005 - St. X would defeat Trinity 48-16 when the two teams met in September. The two would meet for the state championship with Trinity winning 14-6 as underdogs. Both games were played back then at Papa John's Stadium in Louisville (Even their regular season matchup) and although X had a key injury that altered their approach to the state championship game, they picked up a lot of penalties in the first half and had problems executing. It seemed like X peaked a little too soon that year while Trinity peaked at the right time. A big win is always positive, but the way this unfolds could be a hidden opportunity if the two schools meet in the playoffs as they have five out of the last eight seasons.
