Glad you're such a great sport, Watusi! I agree, it's good for the soul! Now that it's over, I can say best of luck to the Pirates the rest of the way. Genuinely hope y'all bring another title back to the mountains, and hopefully Pikeville can as well. In all seriousness, severs people have commented about football in the mountains and there is just nothing like it. Living in CKY now and attending games here, it is such a disappointment sometimes. The atmosphere and so forth rarely seems as charged as it is in EKy. Miss my mountain Friday nights for sure!

I'm technically "half-Belfrian" since my mother graduated from there, but you won't catch me claiming to be anything but a Panther on Pikeville-Belfry nights, I don't care if it is checkers I want Pirates plank-walked. Suffice to say, no love lost for me with Belfry either. All that being said, I truly believe this is one of the more balanced games to see tonight. Belfry has good speed, appear to be buying into their coach, and obviously are playing in tribute to Haywood. Pikeville is on a mission to reassert themselves as the original Beast of the East again and played pretty well against Johnson Central this past week. All things considered, I believe this game is a two score game because of the leg of Santes from Pikeville, so give me Panthers by 10 but I wouldn't be shocked if it is more.

Mistakes name of the game tonight. 34-0 right now. Jags need a break to go their way. Pass D has just flopped horribly tonight after doing a solid job this early part of the year.

Ball comes loose in pile at the 27 and refs said he fumbled before he was down. Ashland ball. From my spot it looked like he was down but tough call. SACK! 10 yard loss drops Ashland to 2nd and 20

Refs moved ball up and coach Fields went nuts. Took the penalty. 3rd and 15. Huge sack! Drops Tomcats back to 4th and a mile. Stayed on field. Low pass refs said caught for TD. Penalty after play. Unsportsmanlike conduct on Tomcats. Will be assessed on Kickoff. Extra point good. 14-0. Jags need to settle down and take advantage of kick being moved back on this series.

3 and out, poor punt and Ashland with a huge return courtesy of a missed block. Knocking on the door. Run off right side then middle, both for minimal gain. 3rd down and false start by Ashland. Tackle for a half yard loss brings up 4th and about 11. O stays in field. Going to test the D early. Pass over the middle and TD Ashland. Extra point is good. 7-0 with 8:02 left in first qtr.

As I said, we will see. Youth gets experience from being in that position, gets their mistakes pointed out on film, works on it in practice and games, and gets better. It's called coaching. Did this in the first game, got coached up, went and did tremendously better in second game, had a bit of a slip in 3rd game but not near as many, and Dunbar sustained a couple drives, one of which finally resulted in a TD after being kept out of the end zone all game. So I look for the staff to have prepared them by teaching from their few mistakes in the recent game. This Ashland team is good, do not get me wrong. But East is better than last year despite the youth. Ashland struggled with Lawrence County AT Ashland. While Lawrence County is not a bad team, Ashland should have beat them by two TDs, not 5 points. So don't act like they're not capable of overlooking a team or not taking them seriously. They may very well win, I'm just saying it will not be a blow out I do not believe. The East kids have fight in them.

We will see. It is football after all, and anything can happen. East Jessamine's biggest problems are 1) Consistency and 1A) Depth. Ashland has some very good players, especially impressed by #34, he's a stud that the defense and the offense both will need to account for when he is on the field. East's offense needs to sustain drives and keep the Ashland offense on the sideline, their bugaboo has been shooting themselves in the foot with silly drive killing penalties.

East will fight. They will not roll over. Disappointing loss this past Friday for sure, I'm sure they've learned from it but that's the result of playing a ton of youth. I know for a fact the coaching staff still has faith and will game plan to put boys in a position to be successful but at the end of the day they have to dig deep and fight.

This one gets ugly fast. Very fast. Central rolls by as much as they want to I believe.

As an old Pikeville guy, I just can't go against my Panthers. I agree, tons of similarities between the two. I think Pikeville takes this one and my confidence goes even higher if it goes to the kicking game. Pikeville's Santos set a new school record with 49 yarder this past week that would have been good from 50. That surpassed former all state Zach Burgy-Vanhooses' record of 47 yards. And he has such a smooth kicking motion. I think he can go further.

He has a very good core of skill players coming up. Youth and number of them is the disadvantage right now as most of them are sophomores. He and his staff have them coming together well with the few upperclassmen they do have. Injuries have wrecked the past two years so I'm excited to see a mostly injury free season, they can do very well if they stay healthy. Also their youth on the lines shows great promise, just need time and reps Another issue they run into is buy in. Traditionally not a strong football school and support has been for other sports. It's getting better but for a 5A school, they can do more from admin and fans alike. I know there were at least 15 more kids who initially said they would play this year and never showed up. That hurts depth downstream.
