Really - were they mainly due to football? how many players are we talking about? would they have made a difference on the varsity level?

Congrats to the Ryle Raider Frosh for pulling the upset of the previously undefeated 'Birds! Not to diminish the feat, but who played for HHS? Were they at full strength? The reason I ask is that the Varsity played and alot of Frosh play JV. Congrats to the Frosh 'Birds on an OUTSTANDING season.

 

Congratulations to Highlands on a great season. It is very hard to go undefeated. Ryle has only lost 4 games all year and lost to Highlands in the regular season by one point on a last second shot. I knew that the young Raiders would be focused since they felt they shouldn't have lost in the regular season. I didn't notice Highlands missing anyone from the first match-up.

I'm guessing in the mid-90's, 3 or 4 of the top players in most classes chose not to play. Some concentrated on other sports, some decided it wasn't fun any longer.

Two great games tonight. Ryle comes out on fire in the second quarter outscoring Highlands 16-7 to end the half up 13. Highlands was in foul trouble all night. They made a good run at the end to cut the lead but the Raiders made their free throws down the stretch to revenge a 1 point loss in the regular season. :thumb:

 

Tight second game with Dixie playing shorthanded. They were missing two starters tonight, their point guard to sickness and their power forward was on crutches. Dixie has another big man get injured in the first half. Dixie struggled with the press tonight. They got in foul trouble in the third allowing CCH to pull away. Great game by Wellbrock for CCH.

 

Goes to show you that any team can be vulnerable if they lose key players to injuries or sickness, including Boone. Good win for Ryle, Ryle, Boone, and Highlands have to have the top freshman classes.

Championship game tonight between Cov Cath and Ryle was postponed until Friday night at 7:30 PM still at Cov Cath.

The only game I saw better than the Ryle Highlands Semi Finals game was the regular season game with the buzzer shot to win. Not to take credit from the Birds play, but the only downside to that game was Ryle was without one of the Star players...Mitch Mcleish. He was out in 2 of the team's 4 losses this year due to an injury. The other losses were to a very good Louisville Male team and the opening game against Boone Co (Arguably the best frosh team up here). I look for this Championship Game to be battle between two of NKY's power houses. Good Luck Raiders!

Well if you're going to call me out on it:

 

Class of 97': 4 starters from frosh team never made it to their senior year- Raybourne, Goetz, and Nader quit after freshman year, Skidmore quit before his senior year.

Class of 96': 3 starters- Romito, Roeding, Foltz all were done after freshman or sophomore year.

 

I rest my case chief.

The Boone/Highlands game this year was also a good one. Boone was missing 2 of its starters (Gabbard/Popp), but the game still went to 3 OTs before Boone fell by 2.

 

I think Boone started 9-0 when Flannery, Popp, and Gabbard were all healthy and playing and went 7-8 the rest of the season without having all three of them present and healthy. Just goes to show how much injuries/sickness can affect a team. It seems to have happened to Ryle and Dixie to a lesser extent this year as well.

 

The Boone JV is playing in the Northern KY JV championship game, and those three Boone freshmen have also all been big contributors for that team this year.

 

With proper coaching, Boone, Ryle, Highlands, and Dixie frosh all have enough talent to win on any given night.
