Don't know of any schools that beats that mascot !

Agree!! That is one of the coolest mascots I have seen. Love it!

Was that an opening game thing or is the mascot going to be at every home game?

What did the mascot do when the team ran through that banner?

The CRU will get better. 5 Freshman and many Sophomores start. Going to take a little time.

I’ve joked on here about how St. Henry will have 5 stars in no time, and I was hoping last night would’ve been a little closer… but a blowout was always possible (or likely lol). Holy Cross’ QB is incredibly fun to watch.

You can tell which school has had a football program for a while and which one just started just by looking at the players. Little things like how they make open-field tackles, size, etc… Football just isn’t in the St. Henry DNA yet. There are going to be a LOT of growing pains these next few years and beyond. I’m just so happy and proud that I can go to St. Henry for my fix of Friday Night Lights now - even if it’s not pretty. It was always my favorite thing growing up and it’s amazing to see that spectacle find a place at St. Henry.

Onward and upward! GO CRU!!

I new Holy Cross would win big. Ferguson threw for 100 yards 3 tds.  Oglesby had 7 carries 123 yards 1 td and 1 td catch.

Here is the stat summary for the game.

TurboStats GameCast for Football: Holy Cross Indians_vs_St. Henry Crusaders

HC's Thomas Maddox took the opening kickoff 84 yards for the TD.  Offensive Player Stats are in the pictures.  Jacob Rieselman had a big day on both sides of the ball - 4 carries for 76 yards and 4 sacks for 42 yards, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.  Braylon Thornberry had 4 catches for 81 yards and 2 TDs.  Charles Oglesby ran 8 times for 133 yards and a TD.  QB Brian Ferguson ran 12 times for 87 yards and a TD and also went 7-11 for 106 yards and 3 TDs.  Max Hunt had the other TD catch late in the first half.

For St. Henry, QB Ryne Ravenscraft went 4-15 for 67 yards but was intercepted once and sacked 6 times.

Covington Holy Cross (1-0) has their own opener against Bracken County next Friday night while St. Henry (0-1) travels to play Boone County.

I talked to some folks pretty recently and we were all wondering out loud about why St. Henry felt like they needed to push their self-imposed timeline up a year to move into varsity. I recall when John and the Holy Cross team took big losses in their first season or two back in the late 1990's and I know Randy and the Cooper boys also took some big losses in their first two seasons. Cooper started off their program by playing two of the rivals in their school district in Ryle and Conner though. Those were very capable teams, to say the least. Let's be honest here though, as much as I'm a Holy Cross fan, it's is a struggling football program right now.

Like theguru said Rome wasn't built in a day, but getting clobbered like that by the current Holy Cross program is more like having your blanket fort knocked over than it is having the Murus Romuli tested by tribes from the barbarian kingdoms.

That is perhaps the funniest analogy in the history of BGP. Can we reuse that as needed? Thanks Cobra!

Wasn't in attendance so I don't know what the mascot did when the team ran through the banner, but I did read (Tribune) it is going to be an ongoing home field thing. Also, it was Odom's niece riding her own horse.

80 players from both teams and numerous coaches were very happy that Tribune behaved before the game.

The horse led them onto the field during the “Crusader Walk” before the game. It was waiting by the lower concession stand and led everyone to the corner of the end zone (not running yet). Waited in the same spot while they did pregame festivities and the national anthem. Started running to lead the team through the banner and onto the field. Looked like the horse behaved well the whole time - wonder if it has any eligibility? Would every tackle be a horse-collar penalty?
