Saint Xavier 38 Owensboro 7

Featured Replies

The Tigers start the season (1-0) and travel to Bowling Green next Friday. I thought Owensboro had some good skill guys but were overmatched in the trenches. St. X starting defense in 2 scrimmages plus this game only given up 1 TD so impressive start for the unit. Marlon Harbin for St. X had great game.

Final per the update thread.

Best all around X team I’ve seen in last 4 years.

Is anyone surprised at this outcome though?  I have never been impressed with Hampton when O plays good teams.  I know he is a great player, but it is interesting to see.

Hampton in 2024

Tier 1 teams= 0-4

Cal- 15 carries for 90 yards NO TD

BG- 12 carries for 68 yards NO TD

O Cath- 14 carries for 114 yards 1 TD

BG playoff game no recorded stats on KHSAA.

Tier 2 teams= 8-0

Davies Co- 8 carries for 104 yards 1 TD

Graves Co- 17 carries for 165 yards and 4 TD's

Apollo- 27 carries for 177 yards and 2 TD's

Marshall Co- 20 carries for 148 and 3 TD's

Muhlenberg Co- 5 carries 138 yards and 3 TD's

Madisonville- NH- 24 carries 195 yards and 2 TD's

Henderson Co- 20 carries for 222 yards and 1 TD

Ohio Co- 7 carries for 140 yards and 3 TD's

St X looked like they were in mid-season form.

Their lines put on a clinic tonight.  Their defense were subbing in 3-4 guys on most plays and still making the plays.

They have good skill guys obviously.  Also their kicker is a big weapon on kickoffs kicking it in the end zone about every time and keeping it out of Hampton's hands.

I think they are going to be a tall order for BG next week.

For Owensboro, you won't face a team with that depth the rest of the year.  But you will face a team with very similar skill next week.

I thought your skill guys did well.  All 11 X defenders were focused on Hampton.  Dillard was impressive and the QB scrambled really well.  Keep your head up and move on!

X beat Freddie D 35-7 in less than 3 quarters and Owensboro 38-7…..these aren’t slouch teams they are killing.

I wanted to put out the prediction that X would beat O handily but I didn’t want to look like a salty Mayfield fan since O handled us in the scrimmage but Mayfield was an absolute mess at that point. St. X is VERY good. Owensboro is a very good 5A team. I can’t say exactly what I want without looking crazy but I fully expected this result.

Either way these teams are in 2 different classes and best of luck to both. I think each have a great shot to make a deep run.

Don't know how good Owensboro is..they have some nice athletes and Hampton is a heck of a back but St. X looked dominant. Returned a lot from last year and using Busch on Offense.  They could make a run.

It would have been dead on - so no worries.

Does anyone know the final numbers for Hampton?

Owensboro times says 15 for 40…it was really 3 or 4 decent runs for about 35 and the rest were getting hit behind the line with no blocking.  Credit X tough defense.

Everybody meets their match at some point. Owensboro scheduled two of the very best teams in the state week 1 and 2. No shame in being humbled and learning in games like that. Best of luck to them next weekend.
