At last mention the Bobcats were still looking for a game for the 2025/2026 cycle, and with the lack of a schedule being circulated I'm assuming they're still hunting for a 10th regular season game, but I haven't heard much about the rest of the schedule, either. I kind of suspect that Powell County and/or Perry County Central may fill in some blanks.

Aug 15 vs. Johnson Central (Scrimmage)
Aug 22 -
Aug 29 -
Sep 5 vs. Wayne County

Sep 12 vs. Harlan County
Sep 19 -

Sep 26 at McCreary Central (District)
Oct 3 vs. Rockcastle County (District)
Oct 10 vs. Knox Central (District)
Oct 17 -

Oct 24 at Clay County (District)
Oct 31 vs. Pulaski County

With the tragic passing of Coach Haywood, Dudley is now the active wins leader in the state of Ky sitting at 443 wins I do believe.  If my math is correct, Coach Haywood's final wins total is 491 which is still the all-time wins total.  But among coaches still active Dudley moves to the top followed by Larry French and Kevin Wallace.

Kevin Wallace currently has 361 wins. He's retiring after the 2025 season so he isn't going to have a shot at the top 3.

If you throw out the short 2020 season, Hilton has averaged 10 wins per season in the last 10 full seasons, and French has averaged 9 wins. Hilton currently has 443 wins and French currently has 369. At his current pace Hilton would need 5 more seasons to overtake Coach Haywood at the top of the football coaching wins list, and French would need 14 more seasons. Hilton is 75 and I Larry French is 77. I can see Hilton maybe doing it, but I've gotta think there's no way for French.

Jim McKee is next on the leaderboard for active coaches with 278 wins. He's 55 now and will need to average 10 wins a season for the next 22 years to overtake Haywood.

From Cov Cath Football Alumni on Facebook.

Mark Applegate - 1997

crockett.jpg

That was taken in the 1997 AAA semifinals at Cov Cath. Tom Greer was coaching at Bell County that season while Dudley Hilton was taking the Bourbon County Colonels to their state championship, and Lynn Ray was a game away from winning his 5th and final state championship with Cov Cath.

I was standing on the sideline about 10 or 15 yards away from that tackle. Jason Crockett was QB and SS for Bell County, and Mark Applegate was one of our defensive tackles. Bell County had the ball right at about midfield on the near hash, Crockett took 5 step drop off of the snap and 'Gate busted through his block and was about a yard away from him the whole time. (Their O-line struggled with our D-line the entire first half and we pulled away in the second half after their line was just too gassed.) Crockett had to get rid of the ball and threw about a bomb off of is back heel that was in the air for about 35 yards and landed probably 5 yards past his receiver just before Applegate planted him in the ground.

Here's the film from that game:

Not to hijack the Bell County thread, but didn't he knock out Gibson at Highlands the week before?  I was at the game a week after Highlands knocked us out of the playoffs, and it was a run or pass to the bleacher side (it's tough to remember those details now lol) that cut back in and he just blew up the running back.  One of the hardest hits I've seen in high school.  Thought it was Applegate, but either way, dude was a thumper!

That was Ryan Pfeiffer who made that hit on Noah Gibson the week prior. The broadcast here erroneously credited Tim Woolf with the hit, but it was Ryan Pfeiffer.

Gotcha, I was on the school side and thought it was Applegate.  He was always a tough matchup.
