How is Hopkinsville in 6A?

They made them go ahead and play in the 6A district that they will be in when the consolidation happens if it ever happens lol.

That’s the million dollar question that no one knows the answer to. Apparently HHS appealed the decision when classes were released and KHSAA denied their motion to stay in Class 4A.

The merger was announced back in 2021 and not too long after that, the timeline Christian County Schools established for the new school to open was having them start in Fall 2024.

I don't remember seeing anything official come out from the KHSAA about it, but my recollection is that the word from Christian County Schools was that they would have Christian County and Hoptown competing in sports as separate schools through Spring 2024 and then merging together for the following year. I'm assuming they had talked to the KHSAA throughout the process and had their blessing for that timeline.

I would guess what we are seeing here with both schools playing 6A football right now is the KHSAA's way of saying, "You made us plan to have ONE high school in 6A football and no other high schools to deal with elsewhere, and now we're still left with TWO high schools. Instead of making us re-scramble the 4A and 5A classifications for the 2025-2026 realignment and then re-scramble everything again once your schools have merged, both of your schools can just compete in 6A and then IF you get construction finished and the schools merged in time for 2026 football, you'll just be competing as a single team in a three-team district in 6A."

Which does make sense but it would seem to have made more sense to leave Christian County in 6A District 1 with Daviess/Henderson/McCracken & leave Hoptown in the 6 team Class 4A district 1.

Its a tough situation regardless leaving in the middle of a scheduling cycle so there wasn’t a “right” answer.
