I heard they got more talent this week with the Houston kid transferring from Mayfield. That’s the second BIG transfer Graves has gotten from Mayfield in the last few years. The last being SIU commit Lincoln Acree.

I wouldn't call this a big get. Not near the talent level as Acree. He will have to improve to be a good high school QB. He has the mobility but has to improve his decision making throwing the ball. He wasn't going to beat out Robbins and with Stinson coming in as a Freshman not enough room for him. I know he thought he got a raw deal at Mayfield. He didn't. This is his third high school in 3 years.

I would say if it allows Graves to keep one of the best athletes in the area on defense (75 Tackles, 1 FF, 3 FR, 2 TFL, 7 INT, 1 Pick 6) according to what I can find online and potentially move to WR on offense it would be a big get.  Graves seems to like mobile QBs so maybe it works out for this young man.  Graves seems to be trending in the right direction as a program and the administration is committed to athletics with the new 39,000 square foot multi purpose building in the works.

This is a really good transfer for Graves. Houston made some really good throws in scrimmage games for Mayfield last season when he was given the opportunity to see the field.  He always seemed composed and comfortable making plays with his feet.  It opens up the offense for Graves and allows Mathis to play WR and stay at safety where he is such a play maker. Is interesting that this is 2nd big transfer Graves has gotten from Mayfield that will make huge impact on the field. New coach must being doing some great things and going to take Graves to the next level.  They have the play makers and if they can piece together an o-line, they could win 6-7 games next season which is pretty impressive with a rebuilding year and such a tough schedule.

I think Graves as a program is trending in the right direction.  The school seems to be making the commitment to athletics that it takes to be successful and are doing a good job at keeping players at Graves County and now starting to pick up a few transfers themselves.  They seem to do a good job at getting their players to the next level.  All that being said 5A in district 1 and 2 is no joke to get through so playing a tough schedule is just part of it.  This is a team that will more than likely bring back 85%-90% of its starters and has very good 9th and 10th grade classes coming up.  Could be a few really good years for the Eagles.

Graves is in a great spot right now, and a lot of that has to do with the job Coach has done in just his first year. The win vs Mayfield was just different. You can tell those kids wanted it more and were coached to be dawgs! Heading into year two, you can already tell he’s building something special. The culture shift is real — kids are staying home, the team’s playing hard, and now they’re even starting to land a few transfers. That kind of buy-in this early says a lot about the direction he’s taking the program. If they can win 2, maybe 3 out of Mayfield, PT, Owensboro, Murray and McCracken they will be fine.  They have a incoming freshman I hear is D1 talent, hope they can keep him around all 4 years.

As an ohs fan, Graves has to watch out for Apollo and Madisonville too.

They are Graves County boys, tough and competitive.

It don't matter if you come to Graves County or you come to Mayfield, you will get all we got. Might not win every game.

Yep - nothings free playing them.  Play to the end.  Tough schedule, but even if Apollo and Madisonville have better talent I think Graves beats them.  Competitive in every game.

I don't know man... I more worried about us playing at Graves then Apollo and Madisonville getting Graves at home. Owensboro never plays good at Graves. Do we win. Yes, but we don't play well. Plus it's football and sometimes things don't work out.

And we all love football!

Now that the season is getting closer and after talking to some players, parents, and people close to the program I have a stronger feel on the team this year.

They lost their only returning offensive linemen to an acl injury this spring and then lost one of the best incoming freshmen in the state to IMG. Can’t blame the kid for going, but sure stinks for us.

The athletes are there, but the line is going to be very young and most haven’t played significant varsity reps. I think 6-4 this year would be a great season for the coaching staff. That schedule terrifies me.

Mayfield players transferring to Graves is strictly a playing time issue.

I thought Mayfield screwed up with Acree and not finding a way to get him on the field.  I watched him from little league on up and the kid was a playmaker at every level.

The Houston kid is another story.  I don't think Mayfield will miss him.  What little game reps he had last season, I was not impressed.  Yes, he is mobile.  But his arm and decision making were not there.  Sounds like the situation he is walking into at Graves has some weapons, but a relatively new offensive line.  Will be tough.  He also has another year under his belt, and combined with a fresh start maybe he will make a jump in production.

The Martin kid, I watched him in little league as well.  Twice as big and fast as every kid out there.  Didn't see him play any middle school ball, but to read that he is going to IMG is a head scratcher.  I think he would have been much better off staying at Graves as far as playing time goes.  Just don't see him as a future D1/NFL caliber player.

Graves certainly does have a tough schedule, and their consistency as a program shows.  They are more competitive on a yearly basis than they ever have been, IMO.

I would tend to agree that Mayfield wouldn’t miss him a ton at QB, because it seemed they found their answer last year in Robbins, but I have heard Robbins had surgery on his leg due to a baseball injury and might miss a couple of games. I would imagine that transfer is stinging a little more now. I hope Robbins makes a full recovery and gets healthy. Even if that means for our game. I hate for any kid to have to miss a football game. Only guaranteed so many.
