How big of an obstacle is the money in hiring a new coach at Cov. Cath?

Featured Replies

That sounds familiar.:D

Not to take this thread too far off topic (too late), the "most athletic team I've ever coached" is only one Mueller's fall back lines. Another of his favorites is the angry team angle. As in, "this football team is practicing angry. They watch game film angry. And they play the game angry."

Wouldn't want any happy football players, now would we?

I would say that money is an obstacle, but the biggest obstacle is the Kentucky Teacher Retirement System. Any coach who has been paying into this system for a long period of time cannot justify leaving a public school.

Its all money, right?

Awesome. Yep, that's one too. Even better is the double awesome. "That was just an awesome, awesome atmosphere for a high school football game."

I'm trying to get a 15 minute slot to speak at the Highlands football banquet next year. Eight hours can be tough to fill, so it shouldn't be too hard to arrange.

 Why would you want to go to a Highlands Football banquet. Wouldn't that be like going to a Roger Bacon Football banquet. We all know there is no love loss for either school. Or is it that you have never seen that many state championship trophys in one room at one time!!!!!:D

I don't have feelings one way or the other towards Roger Bacon.

And all the football state championship trophies are impressive, even if they aren't most in the state any more.

Yeah i guess you got me there. I guess it would be interesting to see how many trophies Highlands would have if the state awarded State Championships before the 60's. Somebody might be able to figure that one out. Hey Henry, how many would it be!!!!!

I believe we have done this before. I count 25 from 1941 til 2006. Before 1960 til 1941 they were NKAC champs except for 1943 when Dayton was declared NKAC champs and Highlands was declared State champs. Before 1941 they recieved various titles.

1917 No. Ky Champs

1924 Class B Champs

1925 Class B Champs

1926 Class B Champs

1934 Little 5 Champs

1937 Little 6 Champs

1938 Little 6 Champs

Your just too weird.:creepy:

It's all about the money. And yes, retirement is a large chunk of money.

How do the St X, LexCath, and Trinity attract good experienced candidates?

Holy Cross started their program with a retired Ohio coach, then replaced him with a retired NFL player. Brossart struggled to get a coach in place.

As was stated in another thread, Covcath may have a good idea of who the next coach will be, but I think due to financial constraints, it's not the coach they really want.

...which is who?

What about looking into a guy that is self employed who doesn't need that kind of supplement. Is there any rule saying that a head coach needs to be a teacher or an administrator? I believe there were a couple that applied last time this job was open.

Good question about X, T, and LC. I wonder if the head football coach at those schools takes home a good chunk more than at CCH? If so, why?

My guess is the fact that X and T are much larger schools would be a plus for them. LC I believe may be a little closer in size to Cov. Cath. (not sure on this) but just a guess, maybe in Lexington the Cathlic Church is in better financial shape. I thought I read were in Covington there were some financial problems and some smaller schools may be closing.
