Wrong! Coaching is not overrated. Yes they do receive too much blame when their teams are struggling. Talent doesn't always prevail. Preperation is such a huge part of coaching and being successful. There are upsets at every level night in and night out. Coach Schlarman is a great coach and HHS is lucky to have him. You name any team anywhere that could afford to lose their 2 starting guards and top 2 scorers and wouldnt struggle just a little bit.

HHS is improving and will only get better when Mr. Simpson gets back.

 

One last thing. I challenge you to find one wonderful coach who has won anything with zero talent. There are plenty of bad coaches that have won with tons of talent. Willie just doesn't have a ton of talent...

I agree this year he doesnt have a ton of talent. Just dont be surprised if they make some noise in the 9th region when Nic Simpson returns. He is an excellent coach.

Very impressed with the Scott Eagles when I saw them play a couple of weeks ago in the Morgan County Showcase in West Liberty. Very well coached and sound in many different areas.

Justin Seiter had a LOT of talent and put his team on his shoulders to beat St. Pats and Mason. At Rupp they then made it to the Elite Eight. Willie did a great job but did have plenty of talent to work with. He molded them all season into what became a Championship team.

Happens all the time. Plenty of championships have been one by teams with less talent than other teams. The 80 birds team reminds me a lot of this years team. Only 1 returning player (Fischer) with any varsity experience. 6 or 7 seniors with no varsity experience. 6'5 center goes down early in the season with a knee. I think the record was something like .500 for the season. Yet there they were playing for a regional championship (should have won it) losing in a nailbiter to Cov Cath. Coach Shields took a mediocre ball club with no experience and a loss of a starter and molded them into a good team by years end. The great coaches win with less talent all the time. Willie has not had enough time to put in any category so lets just wait and see.

The team is competitive. There are only 3 games that seem to be runaways....Brossart, Dixie and Scott. Otherwise, the team has been in every game.

I brought up 80 because I beleive they are similar to this years squad. I guess all 16 regions will be won by the most talented teams. unbelievable? I'm not sure where 2000 came from.
