Big 1A battle that will have a lot of eyes on this game. Raceland traveling right back up to NKY after their 35-0 loss to 5A powerhouse Highlands, while NCC came up short against 6A Campbell Co in a 29-28 loss that came down to a failed 2pt conversion with under 40 seconds left in the game.  Who you taking? 

It should be a great matchup. These two schools often used to meet up in the playoffs. Raceland won handily last year but graduated a lot and are still looking to hit their stride while NCC has dropped two in a row, but both to 5A and 6A opponents. These two schools often used to meet in the playoffs. It derailed Raceland especially for several years in the 2000's because they would often be forced to meet up with Beechwood or NCC early in the playoffs due to alignment and most of the time Beechwood or NCC would defeat Raceland on the way to winning the state championship.

What impresses me about NCC this year isn't just that they have a good passing attack, but also how they spread the ball around to many different receivers. Raceland is still working their offensive personnel out, but they have a couple of hard hitting backs and defensively they are stout. I think this one comes down to whichever team establishes their tempo whether that's NCC establishing their balanced game, keeping Raceland guessing defensively or Raceland establishing a strong running game and a clock control offense. Should be a great matchup!

 

This should be a very good and interesting game. I think many will be watching or listening in on this, especially with interest in 1A. We are enough into the season too, which means both teams have some games under their belts. I believe Raceland is similar to how they have been the past few seasons and NCC is better than their past few seasons. Regardless of the turnout, some answers to questions about the upper part of 1A should be answered after this game is played. Good luck to both teams.

Hard to talk when both teams coming off a loss. Highlands Raceland game was much closer than score shows. 
NCC doesn’t turn the ball over they beat CC by two scores. 
Hopefully NCC can get some to work in their favor this week. 

Big game this week for NCC.  Turnovers have been a thorn in the side for NNC.  Mistakes determined the outcome of the Campbell game. Questionable call on the final 2-point conversion.  Go with the horse that has proven he is hard to stop. I like the decision to go for two.  The Raceland game is a test for both teams to show if these two teams can contend in 1-A come playoff time.  Regular season is half over.  No excuses for either team. Let's hope for a well-played game and everyone comes out healthy, Go Breds.

As you might gather from the lack of details on Raceland’s passing game above, the Rams have relied heavily on the run game. More specifically, the passing game is vertically challenged. Raceland averages roughly 5 yards per attempt. They've had a great run of quarterback play throughout their ascent to 1A contender, but it hasn't been there for them this year. 

Usually by now, a team is well on its way to who they're going to be. But with Raceland’s schedule loaded in the front half, I think consistent, short to intermediate passing can still emerge to compliment Stiltner. This would be a good week to see a step forward in that area.

If the Rams are looking for holes in NewCath's secondary, the Campbell County film is the place to start. The 'Breds had been pretty air tight on the back end before last week, when the Camels' starter hit them up for over 200 yards on just seven completions.

Well tonight is going to be interesting.  Wet field, wet ball, windy conditions and a slick field.  What else could affect the game?  Who will benefit from inclement weather conditions?

Game is being played at Covington Catholic, just under a mile from my house. The wind is going absolutely nuts right now, so pushing the game a little is definitely a good plan.
