It feels as if the season just started and here we are in wk5 (mid-season)….

We have a district match up between 2 of 5A’s top 10 teams. #5 Owensboro comes into the game with a 1-3 record losing to #1 team in 2A, 3A and 5A by a combined total of 43 point. #7 Graves comes into the game having one of the best starts in recent memory (3-1) beating 2A powerhouse and cross town foe, Mayfield. With their only loss coming from what could arguably be the most talented team in the state, Paducah Tilghman  61-7.

Is this the year the Eagles take down the Devils in district play? Or do the Devils get it right and possibly start a win streak leading to the playoffs?

Who do you have winning and why?

Great game here!  If this game were down in Graves County, I would take Graves County.

Since it's at Rash, I am leaning Red Devils.  But it just feels to me that Graves is lurking and circled this game.  They would prefer not to go to the District 2 Champ in Week 2 and rather host Week 2.  This is a HUGE game for 5A District 1 right out of the gate.  And while I think Madisonville is certainly in this race, their defeat at Ft Campbell makes this game feel more important to me.

Against a VERY good OCath team, Owensboro actually outgained the Aces 478 yards to 446 yards.  QB Delacey played pretty well throwing for over 300 yards with a TD and an INT.  Hampton had just over 100 yards rushing and a TD with 3 guys with at least 5 catches on the night and near 100 yards a piece.  They picked up one fumble and an INT.  But they faced a team with an exceptional player and just came up short.

Graves comes in off 2 beat down games after coming up short against a great Tilghman team and a young Mayfield team.  SR QB Kaden Gregory has played well in the early season throwing for over 600 yards with 8 TDs vs 2 INTs and he brings a little dual threat element with over 110 yards rushing on the year and 3 more TDs.  Denis Marrs leads the Eagles on the ground with over 440 yards and 6 TDs.  The Top 2 WRs are good ones in Lincoln Acree (17 catches over 300 yards and 4 TDs) and Ty Cavette (10 catches nearly 200 yards and 2 TDs).  What is impressive for me on Graves is through 4 games they are within 20 yards of being dead even on rushing vs passing yards offensively.  That is tough to prepare for.

Again, really tough to pick this one.  Playing at Rash is a tough obstacle.  Good luck to both teams!

Owensboro is the favorite until Graves proves they can win at Rash.  Very tough place for team to come into and get a win.

Owensboro's young defense has been victimized by great quarterback play this season. Through four games, they've faced three guys that frequent the Mr. Football watchlist - Hodge, Bailey, and Atwell. Those quarterbacks combined for over a thousand yards of total offense and 15 touchdowns against the Devils. Kaden Gregory is not quite on that level, but he's one of WKY's best and played really well against Owensboro last year, as did his top target, Acree.

Gregory's presence gives the Eagles their best opportunity to win at Rash in the last twenty years. They only lost by a score in Owensboro four years ago, but I'm talking about confidence level going in. The Devils were loaded that year, they're vulnerable in 2024.

This one should be worth watching! I think we will see some back in forth in this game!

I agree and I plan on watching some or a lot of this game.
