January 27, 200719 yr What say you? Henry Minor was a package deal. Kentucky offered, he verballed, his buddy verballed. Now that his buddy switched to La Tech, Kentucky pulled his. Just the business of collegiate athletics, IMO but I'm sure many of the UK fans have a different opinion. Don't forget your pitchforks.
January 27, 200719 yr He was an Archer recruit and may have been a packaged deal with the other kid who decommitted. I have heard that we offered him a grayshirt and he refused. I don't like it if we just yanked it from him.

There may be more in the coming weeks, as all of Archers recruits are being re-evaluated. In the future should we post them in this thread Ram, or do you want to start a thread for each of them?
January 27, 200719 yr This is different from the U o L situation. This kid apparently knew he was part of a package deal. His scholly was thus conditional correct?

True, but even so, it shows a lack of character to just pull the offer outright. As LABS suggested, I hope they made alternate arrangements with him to try and keep him on board. If they offered a grey shirt and he refused it, I can live with that much easier than if they just yanked the offer.

January 27, 200719 yr This happens more often, than some realize....From the player and parents perspective, its extremely unfortunate and the recruitment process must continue elsewhere. From a college program perspective, they usually withdraw offers for two reasons... 1) Found another player, with equal or better talent or declining skills. 2) Academics, off the field issues or injuries to current players, might lead to red-shirting/depth chart change. Not defending UL, just offering reasons why this occurs. Like I said in the other thread, more commo than most realize.
January 27, 200719 yr I understand 02Ram54's feelings. Some on this site blistered Louisville for pulling Brad Durham's scholarship offer, and it would be interesting to see if the avowed Kentucky fans aim that ire at their own program for doing the same thing to another player. At least Louisville gave Durham two or three months to re-open the recruiting process. For a player that lost an offer this week, he has precious little time to make a huge decision.
January 27, 200719 yr Let's take another stab at this and keep the comments on the thread topic. If anyone doesn't like the intent of the thread starter, send him a PM, don't muddy up this thread.

Even in a perfect world, that would NEVER happen. :thumb:

January 27, 200719 yr Not speaking for 02Ram54, he is more than capable. UK, UL and others are not alone, in scholarship withdrawals. It happens fairly common at most, if not all D1 schools, just not often discussed. Scholarships are renewable, on a "one year basis"....so in essence, ANY roster player can have his scholarship revoked, not renewed or withdrawn. Of course the discussion is this school or that school but in reality, college athletics at D1 programs, is a Business....the business of winning and money. If a coaching staff makes an offer, than withdraws it....it's usually predicated by off the field issues, academic reasons or a higher rated player at that position, is now available....to help win. Don't have to like it, agree with it but that is the process. O2Ram54 is pointing out, that UL is not the only program this has happened to. The one who does suffer, is obviously the student-athlete. Players transfer, drop-out, get injured, get home sick or simply aren't good enough, which all result in them leaving....keep in mind more leave, than have their scholarships withdrawn.
