  • theguru changed the title to Garrard County 35 Somerset 28

Garrard was up 21 to 0 in first 4 or 5 minutes.

Somerset tied it up in the second half.

On 4th and long from around the Somerset 40, Garrard connected on a pass around the 10 yard line that was first batted in the air by the Somerset DB, then by the WR before the WR pulled it in and walked in for the go ahead score.

Somerset drove down and appeared to tie the game up on a 4th down pass of their own, only to have the WR ruled out of bounds.

Good game by Garrard as Somerset struggled the first half to stop them. Somerset settled down after the early onslaught, but came up short in the end.

Sounds like Somerset has just had some bad juju the last few weeks!

Somerset got me puzzled.

They graduated most of their offensive line from last season, and they've really struggled the previous 2 weeks.  I wasn't able to go tonight, so I'm not sure what happened.  I do think they turned it over a couple of times early that led to a big early deficit.  Hopefully they can jell by the time district rolls around.

The Golden Lions took advantage of 2 early interception and jumped out to an early lead.  Good job by the Jumpers to keep fighting with a chance to tie it up at the end. I love watching great players make great plays and last night was a football smorgasbord.  Kudos to the staff at GC for their hospitality.   What a beautiful facility.

Adam Bray with Lake Cumberland Sports, the Briar Jumpers first quarter mistakes were too much to overcome

final 35-28 Garrard.

Somerset’s early turnovers and Garrard’s ability to quickly strike and get their athletes in space from the Wing-T set were ultimately too much to overcome despite somerset outscoring Garrard 21-7 after the 1st quarter.

A couple key stops on Somerset drives - one near the end of the first half and another that went deep into Garrard territory at the end of the ballgame were enough to give them this upset win.

from what I saw last season, I knew Garrard had some special players in Peak and Simmons, and they have both been having a great season thus far, averaging over 100 yards of offense each per game. During warmups, I thought to myself Somerset could have their hands full, just didn’t know the hands would be overflowing in the 1st quarter.

Somerset did well to lessen the blows and roll with the punches after the scary 21-0 and 28-7 start to the game, but they fell for the second straight week against a team they’ve historically dominated.

The Briar Jumpers will try to avoid falling to 2-3 next week versus 1A power Campbellsville.
