BluegrassPreps.com Class 6A Football Rankings 9/9

Barren County is 3-0 so maybe they should be ranked ahead of Simon Kenton if only wins and losses count.

We don't look at it that way and 1A is even a better example with Pikeville.

It's been 20 years now,  but I was around and was involved in coming up with the 1st ever BGP rankings.  And I can only assume the process is still the same. BGP rankings were the college football playoff committee before the playoff committee was even a pipe dream. It's a holistic big picture look that doesn't automatically rank a team based upon record alone, a single win or a single loss. Rather it takes into account, game flow, game control, strength of opponent, where was the game played, and a slew of other things that really make up the big picture.

A cursory glance at Ryle and SK year to date tells me SK has played 3 games. It's given up 35, 40 & 42 points in those games. None of the 3 opponents has a winning record. It has given up more points than it has scored through 3 games. It lost by 39 points to the best team it's played. That loss came to a team that also played Ryle. Ryle won that game by 16 points.

Ryle's has played a tougher schedule with it's one loss coming on the road at 5A #2 Cooper and it was a single score game. Those things matter when trying to determine where a team falls in relation to the other schools in the rankings, or whether it rises, falls, or stays put in the rankings.

If the #1 team in 2A goes on the road to Male and loses in OT, does that mean the must fall below the previously ranked #2 who played and beat a winless 1A school? The way old school polls work, yes that how it would be. But the BGP poll doesn't operate that way, and that's why it's the best representation of teams that we have in this state.

Just my two cents.

SK has a chance to show how good they are, they lose by 39 points, and you are worried about the difference between 11 place and 8 place in a poll that has no bearing on literally ANYTHING.  Got it......

I was more worried where Ryle was ranked. They lost and didn't move a spot.

Do you think any team that isn't top 5 would drop if they lost by 7 to Cooper? Cooper is very good team.

He's aware. SK lost 35-7 to cooper this year in a scrimmage. Scrimmages don't count for anything though. Nothing real about it. If anything, SK is overrated at 11 IMO.

Ryle must just live rent free in your head. Why does it matter? It will all sort out in the end.

Just a small correction... Scrimmages only count when SK beats a team ranked higher than they are.

As someone who has also been involved in the rankings here, this is pretty spot on.

There's A LOT of critical thinking and dialogue that goes on behind the scenes to produce what we see each week. It's obviously about more than simple wins and losses.

It's exceptionally annoying when the rankings are, without fail, questioned every single week without an ounce of logic or reasoning behind the doubt.

I will add to this, I am not saying BGP is always right or BGP is always the best, but it does frustrate me to see so many other places do rankings that clearly do NOT put in the work.  It dilutes everything.

I've said it before on one of the preseason ranking threads, but this feels like the right time to repeat it.

I find myself very invested in the BGP rankings on a weekly basis.

If you can take serious issue or heavily critique the polls provided by the BGP team then you should have no problem producing your own. Put yourself out there to be judged. It's ten fold easier to be a hater as opposed to actually doing your own research and putting the work in.

Hey those Trojans should be honing in on that Top 10 if you ask me!
