Oldercoach
Got to be some defensive concerns after last night and last week. Secondary not quite in shutdown mode, but the loss of Fryman maybe the major concern. Any updates?
BubbyKY
Disappointing for Camel fans, but an exciting back and forth for several quarters. First year starters Elijah Depperschmidt and Parker Kist both had a great night defensively for the Camels. Elijah with several tackles in the backfield and Parker with some great open field tackles against some very elusive receivers. Both are great examples of why football players should wrestle. Level change and attack the hips/legs.
BubbyKY
Everyone put your referee hats on for "you make the call": Ruled illegal forward pass. Not as blatant as the announcers say but a close call. Need some armchair referees to help me understand.

Both side judges on each side of the field threw their flags.

If so, initial / cursory look seems pretty close to “legal”. Note: I’m not one to complain (@ least generally) about officiating, & am thankful for their collective / on-going efforts. BubbyKY
I have been on both sides of this penalty, trying to determine the steadfast rules. When I was on the defensive side and also as a rookie referee, I was under the impression there is an imaginary plane (like the end zone) that can not be crossed prior to release. I was overruled as a referee and out argued by others that this was not the case. I have been told as long as a portion of the player is at or behind the LOS at beginning of throwing motion, then not a penalty. Just trying to determine exact rules so that I can become a better fan.

The NFHS football handbook, Rule 7 Section 5 Article 1 states: "It is a legal forward pass, if during a scrimmage down and before team possession has changed, a player of A [the team on offense] throws the ball with both feet of the passer in or behind the neutral zone when the ball is released. Only one forward pass may be thrown during the down." I watched the pass a few times and it looked to me like Campbell County's QB was running forward and lept off of his rear foot, planting it just behind the neutral zone (the area determined by the width of the football established from the spot of the ball when it is ready for play) and then he released the ball from beyond the neutral zone. That would make it an illegal forward pass. It was close, but I think the stripes were correct in calling the penalty and negating the touchdown.
Cousin Chris
Beechwood was very lucky on that one. How does a kid get that wide open? There wasn’t anyone within 15 yards of that kid, he could have walked in for a TD.
