Right now I am working under the assumption that Hatchell is the guy and has been for some time whenever this day came. He is a qualified candidate and will do well. But I've got myself in to trouble for assuming before!

The reason Mayfield people aren't getting worked up over this is simple.  We know they will make a good decision and they won't bring someone from the outside in and change anything.  Mayfield football will continue on because it doesn't start at the high school head coach.  Everyone is on the same page at all levels.  Yes the head coach will have to make decisions, in game, offseason, etc that may change some outcomes but the kids will arrive to the high school with the pride and heart to play embedded in them already.

Mayfield hasn't updated their KHSAA directory listing yet so it still shows Morris as both AD and HFC. The Mayfield school district employment page has been updated with new job listings since Morris' retirement was announced but they're yet to list the AD or HFC jobs at the high school. No idea what that means, if anything, but they were right quick about listing the HFC job two years ago when it was being done in order to set up Morris' double dipping.

Heard some rumors about some questionable circumstances around all of this. They didn't come from anyone in the Mayfield community though, so they could be baloney. All the same, feels like the Mayfield crowd has been conspicuously quiet about everything since Morris retired. I'dve expected that the first head coaching change for Mayfield football in a quarter century would have the red helmet fans blowing this thread up with discussion. But instead they're very suspiciously hush hush.

Odd. Seems odd.

We are resting easy about this. We are just waiting for the decision to be made. There is no reason to be to be doing whatever it is that you think we should be doing. There is nothing “fishy” going on to my knowledge. 

Coach Joe has coached 25 outstanding years of championship football. He deserves to retire without someone trying to make something different than what it is. Our next coach will come from our staff, and we will continue to play championship football. You will hear more from us when the decision is finalized.

So Dew does want the job? There was talk that he didn't want to be head coach.

I have noticed that Coach Dew has a huge fan club here. The last time is was speculated mayfield was open a lot of folks were talking up Coach Dew.   That may have been just some misinformation or smoke screen.  I do know that Coach Dew has some Head Coaching Experience in KY (I believe 2 season at Lone Oak before Jack Haskins took over the program and won big time with Oakers) but not sure about his out of state career.

My question is this..... based on age along is Coach Dew a viable long term solution like the Cardinal Faithful are accustom to or will we be having this conversation again in 5 or 6 years ??

If he is there 5 years, I believe that exceeds the average tenure of a head football coach. I know Mayfield coaches have a much longer average tenure, but 5 years is above average state wide.

This is defintley and accurate statement, most programs are changing coaches every few years. In my personal opinion that is a huge factor in the success of the big red machine. I don't think the Morris's and Leahy deserve all the credit for Mayfield football success but they do deserve a very large part of it. Mayfield has had tremendous talent over the years and great football culture but I don't think they would be what they are today without Jack and Joe and how long they spent building the Mayfield tradition to new heights. If I were making the hire I would want to do my best to select another long term hire. I think Mayfield would want to avoid the situation of coaching changes every 3-5 years like a lot of teams. 

How long has Coach Dew been coaching with the Mayfield program?

Dew is the coach, congratulations 

I think he has been d coordinator since around 2009-10ish.  Possibly on staff as an assistant before that at some point.

I had been hearing some rumors about this as well, but was hesitant to share at the risk that it was all just fabricated rumor mill fodder and could be the type of thing to falsely drag people's names through the mud. Frankly, for Coach Morris' sake I was obviously hoping the rumors weren't true. But this confirms the things I've heard, unfortunately.
