I will be attending the 9th region semifinals on Sunday. Let's talk about them and everyone get your predictions and votes in.

Newport should win, they are a very good team, long and athletic. They can shoot from the outside and attack the hoop with little issue. Their on ball defense is outstanding. I've sen them 3 times this year and the only way I see them not winning the region is for teams to clog the paint with zone defense and them having a shooting night like they did in the first round. I'm sure it's been tried before and it's way easier said than done. I have Newport by 10+

Newport's game with CCH early in the year was a classic example of what you described.  CCH switched to zone in the 2nd half and it hurt them badly.  Ryle grinded hard in the first round using the zone and man and almost pulled it out. Cooper played the entire game vs. Newport man to man and almost pulled it out without their best player who is now back.

These teams are all #1 seeds for a reason, any 4 of them could win this region which is the way it should be.

I didn’t come up with the game plan but I saw Newport play CovCath and Cooper and I felt like that’s what they were trying to do.

Understand your comment and I was at both of those games as well.  CCH was rock solid with their zone defense, especially in the 2nd half and it was a problem for Newport and IMO was the deciding factor in that loss.  Cooper did utilize a zone defense a few trips for sure but 95% of that game, like all other Cooper games, was Man to Man.  Coach Sully is not a fan zone defense whatsoever and only uses it when it is strategically necessary.

I think it will be a Newport/Cooper finals IMO.

I am looking at 3 point shooting for the final four.

How do teams defend Cooper? Statistically they are the worst shooting team in the final four.

Newport's worst shooter is Covington. Jackson just ok on 3's. The turning point in the Ryle game for Newport was when they focused on attacking the middle of the zone. They hit a lot of pull up 6 footers. I can see why a zone would be the game plan against Newport.

Lloyd is the best 3 point shooting team in the final four. I see Newport playing a tight man defense giving Lloyd trouble though. Lloyd has to play at a slower pace. If they play at a higher pace, it is going to look like their last meeting. I am not saying play a slow game. But if the winning score is 60+, that strongly favors Newport.

First team to 40 wins. Going with the underdog/Juggernauts in this one.

After concerts the last two days I'm back to basketball today. Looking forward to this great doubleheader.

It looked like you had a lot of fun in the Nati. ?

Will Lloyd be walking out in all black like they did for the Beechwood game, or do they have more respect for Newport?

Newport rolls, 70-55 in a game that isn't as close as the score would seem.
