2024 Beechwood Tigers

Featured Replies

With Mattox Kelly, the new kid from Moeller, Brody Waddell, Jack Meier and Chance Baugh the Tigers should have one of their biggest and more athletic lines in recent memory.  Throw in all their skill guys Chase Flaherty, Clay Haden, Luke Erdman, James Cusick and the Fryman kid and that is going to be a tough out for anyone in the state much less anyone in 2A.  I can’t wait to see them match up with Cov Cath this year.

Beechwood WR/RB/DB Luke Erdman won the state championship yesterday in the 100 meter, the 200 meter and the 4 x 100 relay.  He set new school records and almost broke the all time class A state record

Seems like there are more college coaches visiting Beechwood than ever before.    Kudos to Coach Volker for making it a priority!

I am excited about this year too but the Tigers have a tough early season schedule that culminates with CCH so I don't want to get carried away calling out what will probably be the best team on Beechwood's schedule just yet.

Aug 23 at Pulaski County
Aug 30 vs. Campbell County
Sep 6 vs. Dixie Heights
Sep 13 at Simon Kenton
Sep 20 at Covington Catholic

Come on Guru you got to get off the fence.  I agree that they have a tough early season schedule culminating with CC looking like their toughest opponent.  CC still has a lot of questions upfront and Beechwood has all their horses back except Xavier Campbell and the new kid should help with that loss.  Beechwood should have won the game last season so I really like their chances this season.  Honestly some of the other early opponents look to be competitive but I like the Tigers in all those matchup’s.  Be interested in getting your perspective.

If Beechwood stays healthy I like them to win 2A but we both know the other teams at the top of 2A are peers of Beechwood.

Owensboro Catholic is the one team that worries me.  Brady Atwell is a beast and I think they have gotten several transfers from their crosstown rival Owensboro.  They should be really good this season.  And you know Lexington Christian and Mayfield will reload.  Should be a fun year, I can’t wait to get it started.

Yes, I am very concerned about Owensboro Catholic but I also expect the defending Champs to be right in the mix.  With LCA, I am more wait and see if I think they will be in the mix.  Just look at this early season schedule for them:

Aug 24 at Boyle County
Aug 31 vs. Franklin County (at Boyle County Rebel Bowl)
Sep 6 vs. Pikeville
Sep 13 vs. Christian Academy Louisville
Sep 20 at Lexington Catholic

Best wishes Clay! Show them what you've got!

That kid can absolutely throw the football.  As far as just passing the football I don’t think there is a better pure passer in the state of Kentucky.  And he has 4 absolute stud to throw the ball to in the fall.  I am sure Clay will impress some college coaches this weekend.

Luke Erdman and Cole Howard received their first D1 offers today from Butler University.  I don’t think it will be their last offer.

That is a little misleading, from Google:

The (Butler) team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision and are members of the Pioneer Football League.

and

Does the Pioneer Football League give scholarships?

The Pioneer League does not offer any athletic scholarship money and most of its schools have very expensive tuition. While the Pioneer League is a Division I conference in the FCS, the scholarship money has to be something to consider. There is a reason why Pioneer teams like playing NAIA/D3 teams.

I would have thought congratulations would have been in order but if you prefer to dismiss their offer because Butler doesn’t offer athletic scholarships then I guess that’s your prerogative.  Ivy League schools do not give athletic scholarships but I have not seen any correction about it being misleading when players have been offered by Ivy League schools.  Word is that both of the young men have had a lot of schools in to meet with them over the last month so I am sure they will both get other offers.  Hopefully they will meet your approval for legitimate offers.
