USC O-coordinator Kiffin to be named Raiders coach

After failing to land Southern California assistant head coach Steve Sarkisian, the Oakland Raiders and Lane Kiffin have completed the deal to hire the USC offensive coordinator as Oakland's head coach.

Kiffin signed the five-year deal to be Art Shell's replacement on Monday night, and a press conference to announce the signing is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Oakland (4 p.m. ET) on Tuesday.

I figured Monte would tell him to run like hedoublehockeysticks! To bad they don't have a QB. I'd like to see Moss and Calvin Johnson in a system like that. They will have to go after a QB though unless they take a Garcia or can pry away Schaub etc.

I swear I always thought him and Sarkisian would be a package deal there.

Why would anyone sign a five year deal for Oakland?? Nobody lasts that long there...

I'm not sure this one is going to even last 2 years.

I Like his age. I think the Raiders need a young gun whos has nothing to loose and isnt afraid to take some chances. You never know, this could be the next John Madden.

Or he could be fired in a year,

Yoter

This is not a good hire at all, they had to get someone fast, and i'm willing to bit he was at the very bottem of thier list...

Maybe not a great hire, but this young-adult (I believe he still falls in this age group) is sharp and I do not blame him for taking the job. If he gets 4 or 5 wins next season, which is possible with their defense, he looks like a savior and can move on to greener pastures soon enough.

Good luck winning the respect of that clubhouse Lane; you're going to need it.

That organization needs a strong voice to lead them, I don't think a 31 yr old, ex college assistant is a good fit.

Former Giants coach Jim Fassel and Chargers receivers coach James Lofton were also interviewed for the job.

One thing I think will help him is that Sapp was around him in Tampa when he was a kid. That is probably the best person to have on your side in that clubhouse.

It sounds like he almost screwed Sarkiesian. They interveiwed Sarkiesien and he told Davis that he really wanted to bring Kiffin along so Al interviewed him. Sarkiesian pulled out of the running and Kiffin slid in. One thing is for sure he has incredible blood lines in Monte! The old Tampa 2 is representing both teams in the Super Bowl!

He does come from good lineage but I'm sure he'll be another puppet for Al, how long will he last, Al's recent track record shows he'll be hiring again in a year or two.

I promise, promise, promise, that this guy doesn't know that much (if at all) more than some on this site.
