Congratulations to Marcus Newcomb. He is only our 2nd NHSSCA All-American from Frederick Douglass High School.  Newcomb is a little undersized but he is a strong, fast, smart, and athletic. Marcus is a  245 lb. Bronco defensive lineman.  All he has done the last 4 years is show up everyday and go to work.  He has done everything asked of him with great effort and a positive attitude both on and off the field.  He is in the 100 percentile in all our athletic test scores and today he is the strongest Bronco on record.

They did this kid a disservice. With those testing numbers he could easily be a linebacker, or even a DE at high D1 level. Some school may take a chance just off the athleticism alone and then teach him up on a position. Anybody from Freddy D on here willing to let us know if this kid is being recruited?

  • Same, Douglass is one of my favorite high school football teams to follow in large part because of how they schedule.

Sucks that you think the staff and team is doing him a disservice. College recruiters are aware of all the student-athletes here. However, as the writeup says, he is undersized. He will find a collegiate home with athletic opportunities if he decides to pursue the available options.

You play where the TEAM needs you.  If he is good enough and has the right skill set college recruiters will find him.  Especially at a place like FD where Coach McPeek has D1 Power 5 recruiters walking the halls almost daily.  Sounds like an outstanding young man.  I hope he has a fantastic season.

That's my point he is only undersized because of position. Freddy D doesn't have any big boys to play D line down there in the heart of the Bluegrass?

Considering Coach Poe's track record as the defensive coordinator since the inception of the football program, I trust he has put Marcus in the best position to succeed.

From NAIA to D1 rosters, Poe has multiple current defensive players on the field. If you are hinting at FD not having any trench warriors, stop by the St. X scrimmage next week and take a gander at the front 3.

4 -Star UK Commit Transfers to the Broncos from Northmont (OH).  DL room getting crowded at FD. One more to add to those big boys @GoBucks97 was inquiring about...

It is but if my family moved from Ohio to Lexington and I was going to UK, I would choose Douglass or Station, so it makes complete sense.

Welcome to Kentucky young man!

No doubt. The timing more than anything is what caught my attention.

Right, we would all love to have a 4 star D1 commit, transfer in the week before the season starts. ?

Maybe it's a trend. As I recall, the Corbin Twins relocated late summer from Jersey, or am I off there?

No idea. Twins were originally from KY so I'm not sure.

Twins were from Somerset. Went to Loomis Chaffee in Connecticut. Got a pretty sweet NIL deal to come to Corbin for their 5th year.
