In May of last year I had my 4th Pulmonary Vein Ablation (PVA) to address a-fib that was persistent.  It seemed to work finally and after that I committed to dropping the pounds.  I went from around 2

I weighed in at 198 Saturday morning!  First time under 200 in over 20 years.  I've lost a total of 62 lbs since late November 2023.  Staying focused is the key.  Even celebrated my youngest son's birthday yesterday at Rolling Oven in Versailles.

Whoa! 60 pounds in six months? That's incredible!

Down 8 more lbs since my last post here on April 5th, and almost 25lbs down since Jan 1.  Only about 12 pounds away from my college playing weight. Still just watching portions and cutting down my sugar intake and processed foods. The better news is my blood pressure is lower than it's ever been, and my blood sugar levels are in much better place and getting better. Hoping to start back to some light to moderate lifting in the next week or so. Not looking to get back to the muscle bound days. Hopefully this all translates to good results when I re-visit my kidney doctor at the end of June.

Mine since 2020 down around 200 pounds, hoping to get down to 250 by September. Since it’s warming up I’ll be able to get out at walk/jog more.

Congratulations!  I know how hard wight loss is!  I started on Jan. 1 2010 at 310 pounds and today I weighed in at 172 pounds.  Continue your hard work.

I'm at 191 as of Sunday morning.  Down 69 lbs.  I can't wait to be under 190 here in a couple of weeks.

I'm not expert and haven't hit my weight goals yet! But for me, I'm not shy about having OCD and ADHD, both of which have led to an obsessive appetite over the years and I cannot think of a time in my life that I have been a normal weight. I hit my all-time high 363 back in January. As a full time CPA I dreaded that going into tax season. The doctor wanted me to lose 15 pounds by April. I did do that.

This time I really dug deep mentally after hiring a life coach. Why am I eating the way I am? When am I at my worst? Things like that. Part of what is helping is a couple of the medications I am on to help with the OCD, ADHD, anxiety, and such. That combined with the life coaching, I have stuck to weight watchers pretty solidly over the past month and a half and have dropped another ten. I feel light and really good. I have come a long way, but there's a long way to go. Right now I'm in a plateau moment. I keep going between 339 and 341.

@TCR what is your goal for the end of 2024 and what liquids do you drink besides water?

@theguru I would LOVE to get below 265 by the end of 2024. I say that because I hit 265 twice in the past 15 years. Once in 2009 before a college conference and once in late 2012. I hit 275 in 2021. To get below 265 would be a real statement. I would be pushing my high school weight when I played on the offensive line.

Besides water, the joke could be make that there is blood in my mountain dew and coca cola system. I drank a ton of pop and that was about all I drank. Even today, with my Weight Watcher points I squeezed in a 32 ounce coca cola from Chick Fil-A.

On a normal day, usually I would open up going to Tim Horton's and getting a large iced cappuccino without the whipped topping. I love the accounting firm I'm at, but one of our weaknesses is that we have a refrigerator full of pop drinks. I would drink a couple of those, order fast food at lunch with pop and then order dinner from somewhere and drink pop with that as well.

I would say my pop drinking is down about 70%. I have drank at least 64 ounces of water per day for 30 some straight days. It's probably not the healthiest way the way I do it, but I call them "water bombs" because I fill up the glass with 16 ounces and drink it quickly. I just can't see myself at this point drinking it slowly and consistently without getting burnt out on it.

At home I drink lemonade. I add stevia, this version is different, it has erithreyol and tastes pretty a little sweeter. But I may use a bit much of it.

Regarding sugar, I know this is digging deep but it really feels like a drug addiction. But there have been a lot of encouraging signs with the program. I'm bad sometimes to get frustrated and give up - happened many times - but this time I have had a couple of days where I have only bounced off only to bounce back on. So that in itself is a great sign.

On sugar, many experts compare it to cocaine (or other recreational drugs) because eating sugar releases opioids and dopamine in our bodies and sugar has similar effects on our brains.  I am glad to hear you are consuming less sugar and hopefully at some point you can cut all the pop out.

I am not qualified to give any type of medical advice but 265 seems very aggressive.  I like 299 as your year end goal and 265 a year from today.

I'm also not qualified on weight loss.  I have found what works for me on the fight to keep the weight off.  I made a spread sheet on excel and record my calorie- carb intake each day along with calories burned.  I don't smoke, or drink alcohol but I do drink ZERO sodas and a lot of them each day.  I have blood work done often to make sure everything is in line liked it should be.

When I started back on Jan. 1st. 2010 I was 310 pounds and had lost 100 pounds the first year.  IMO that was the easy part.  Keeping that off is the difficult part.  Today 14 years later I've ran 40 half marathons, 5 marathons and run over 1,000 miles a year.  172 pounds today and continue to fight each day and track my calories - carbs.  I never want to go back.  It's not easy but it can be done if you want it and work for it.

I don't know if its as bad as cocaine, but I've come to believe that sugar is addictive. I quit caffeine about 15 months ago which was also really hard to kick, and came with some pretty rough side affects, mostly just feeling awful, drained and headaches (which I rarely get). I've cut way back on sugar and processed foods since March and am now almost under 200 (I played college baseball at 190-195). It's still really tough because I still have a sweet tooth, so instead of processed sugars, I've been eating fruit (oranges, apples, berries) to get something sweet into my system, usually 2-3 servings per day. I also usually add a low carb, zero sugar protein shake before dinner to make me feel full and be able to eat sensibly and not crave some dessert. High fiber fruits help minimize any blood sugar spikes for me, so that's an added bonus.

That makes sense that sugar could be compared to something so addictive. Even right now, I have been slowly sipping on a large coca cola from Chick Fil-A. It's right around 30 points on Weight Watchers (I get 57 in a day) but honestly if I were able to drop that I could almost eat what I wanted and still lose lol.

I did wake up at 338.8 today which was a nice surprise, as I had mentioned toggling back between 339 and 341, lately having been more toward 341 on my weigh-ins. 299 may be a better year end goal. Especially since Weight Watchers encourages a slow, steady loss of 1-2 pounds per week.
