Exactly two months after the teams first met on August 26th in the first game of their 2023 season, the Bluebirds freshmen are once again rolling into Park Hills to take on the Colonels this Thursday, October 26 to face off in their final game of the season, also the defacto Northern Kentucky Freshman Championship.

In August, Cov Cath came out on top with a 20-16 win at home, running in a touchdown on the final play of the game as the clock ticked down to triple-zero. The Highlands squad, which had five starters (Tayden Lorenzen, Chase Jacob, Gabe Williams, Cale Harris, Teagan Haretuku) playing their second game of the day after their JV game that had taken place immediately prior to the August freshman game, is unquestionably chomping at the bit for the opportunity to avenge the team's only loss since coming together as 7th graders in the Fort Thomas Junior Football League.

Highlands is led by QB Cale Harris, who also handles kicking duties for the Birds. RB Gabe Williams is the go-to rusher for the team, while TE Tayden Lorenzen, WR Chase Jacob and WR John Feldbruegge are favorite passing targets for Harris. In the trenches, Bluebirds are led by Teagan Haretuku, Luke Baker, Cooper Benke, and Griffin Benke. Defensively, Williams, Haretaku, Lorenzen, the Benke twins, and Ronan Thaler are major players.

Cov Cath is led by QB Jackson Payne, whose favorite receivers are WR Mac Cogswell, WR Will Danneman and WR William Timmerding. Ball carrying duties have been handled primarily by RB George Unkraut & RB Jimmy Carson, with RB Grant Reardon. Down linemen for the Colonels include Ryan Cox, Ariel Garista, Cooper Dickman, Kyle Collins, Luke Rensing, and Colin Vinson, who are featured on both sides of the ball. Luke Rensing has also turned into quite the utility player, spending various points of the season time as a down lineman, tight end, defensive end, and outside linebacker. Defensively, Jimmy Carson leads the linebacking corps along with Rensing and Unkraut for the Colonels while Timmerding, Danneman and Cogswell head up the defensive backfield. TE/LB Owen Pitzer, OL/DL Jonny Lind, and TE/DL Spencer Clukey all were major contributors early on in the season for the Colonels, but have not played recently in any freshman contests since starting practice with the varsity team.

Kickoff is at 6:00pm on Thursday. What are your predictions for the game?

Loving #57 & #63. Twin Benke Brothers rushing the edge at 6'-4". Brody Benke's not so little Brothers. How big are they supposed to get? The future man. Bright.

I saw over the Summer that the Haretuku kid #75 finished #1 at a 500 participant Lineman challenge out West. Monster at 6'-3". Hearing he is related to ex Bengal Johnathon Fanene. Is that true? Great Bloodlines if true. These pictures are giving me chills what's coming and already in Ft Thomas. Love it.

Is Coach Eviston going to allow the frosh kids that moved up play in this game? Feel like this will be good for them to get the extra reps against good competition.

Should be a good one either way! As always #SCIT

I hope so too. But if they are having a depth issue at Varsity then I don't see them playing. Varsity is far more important than a Freshman Championship.

I definitely think that's cool having twin brothers starting at the same position in mirrored positions on the line. Reminds me of the Lutz twins at Cov Cath, #98 Mike and #99 Matt both playing middle linebacker on the '94 state championship team.
