Well, at least it has became quite obvious that its not time to go ahead and crown Russell or Rose Hill as 16th region champion. There is no way to determine a favorite at this point and IMO we are in for quite a show in March.

I'll repeat for the umpteenth time my earlier observation. Rose Hill is still a year away. Whatever is accomplished this year is a bonus. -

 

Wireman is correct in that the region is wide open although I'll still pick Russell.

:thumb: I agree, I will still peg Russell as the favorite but they like everyone else are very beatable. May want to watch out for Elliot Co.:eek: , they are very good and the Tomcats will still have say in things before all is said and done. JMO

Anyone who thinks that there aren't several teams capable of pulling an upset come March is a fool, no make that a Fool.

 

Russell is still the favorite. It is their's to lose but Elliott, Greenup, Rowan, Rose Hill, Ashland, Boyd are all capable of winning if things fall into place.

Poeple are overlooking one contender that could pull off the biggest upset in Reginal history...Fairview. I would take my chances with Barker on a college floor at Morehead and let him run all night long. They have had several close games with all the Big Regional Contenders. 5-7 point games or less. They can play and may have one of the best coaching staffs in Regional. Cooksey is a master mind of X's and O's and does anyone remember the last coach to take two different teams form the 16th Region to the State Tourney. He sat under Crum as an assistant for years and Crum played for WHO? Coach Wooden...I do believe Hall knows a little bit about the game.

There were many times that you won three in a row at noonball and you werent expected to, ahh on second thought you never won three in a row.

Guys, I'm not a dummy, just stirring your feelings a little bit. But on the other hand...some of the teams you mention may not make it out of the District

Shooter-I agree with the general tone of what you are saying but remember the best 8 teams will not make it to Morehead.This combined with the draw/upsets means that a team MAY not have to defeat 3 good teams.This could apply not only to Fairview but any team in the region.

Remember last year very few people gave Russell much of a chance after the Red Devils scored 24 points on their homecourt in the 63rd championship game.Then they went to Morehead and defeated a Rowan Co. team that finished 14-14,a sick/depleted Fairview team and an Elliott Co. team that while been very good was still very young.Don't get me wrong I feel Russell was the best team in the region at the end of the year but the road thay faced in the region was not monumental.

Russell: Raceland, Elliott, West, Greenup, Fairview, West (again), Raceland (again), Raceland (again). Also East, Ashland, Morgan.

 

Rose Hill: Morgan, Bath, Fairview, Lewis, Fleming, Bath (again).

 

Elliott: West, Boyd, Bath. Also East, Rowan, Fleming, Menifee, Lewis, Fairview, Menifee (again).

 

Greenup: East, Fleming, Fleming (again), Morgan, Boyd.

 

Ashland: Lewis, Boyd, Fairview

 

Boyd: Rowan, Russell, Fairview

 

Raceland: Fleming, Menifee, Fairwiew

 

At least 7 teams have 3+game 16th Region win streaks by my unofficial count, but it's entirely possible that I messed up. Two teams have done it twice. Still, there's no doubt that there's a lot of parity on the 16th, and that it's a little early to assume who makes it to Rupp.
