Official stats will be posted to the KHSAA Scoreboard by each of the teams. Neither team has reported them as of yet. They usually show up within 24 hours.

Highlands Scoreboard

Cooper Scoreboard

Should be a fun one if they face each other again in the playoffs. Congratulations Highlands.

Some unofficial stats for Cooper.

Sophomore QB Cam O’Hara threw for 555 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Junior WR Isaiah Johnson 8 receptions for 260 yards and I believe 3 touchdowns

Junior WR/TE Austin Alexander 13 receptions 160 yards and 3 touchdowns

Combined for 1194 yards of offense, per Evan Dennison's stats. Yowza!

And -34 yards rushing.

Couple of really good teams going at it here. Should Highlands have won bigger. Maybe. No moral victories,  but getting the win counts.

Cooper have a bunch of D1 guys. They look the part for sure. Those are the ones making plays. And they should be.

Here's Highlands stat line:

Benke 28 carries for 190 yards 2 TDs, 12/18 passing for 226 and 5 TDS

Giesler 27 carries for 204 and a TD

Class 6 catches for 146 and 3 TDS

Also hoping #11 for Cooper is OK. Seemed pretty scary.

#11 is Elijah Harrison...what happened there?

I'm no doctor but looked like a head injury. He did walk off on his own, but seemed pretty dazed.

Great offensive showing by the birds, 58 points and over 400 yards rushing on the road will win a lot of games.  To quote Encanto “We won’t talk about defense, no, no.”

Play calling in the 4th created some frustration and 4 letter words to be used.  Seemed we wanted to say “Look, we can pass too” when simply handing the ball off and killing the clock would have been more prudent.

But, big district win! Onto the next.

Cooper Qb is legit.  Had some great throws.  Kept his team in the game.  I still question how this team lost to Ryle.  How did they only score 10 points in that loss?

Benke might be best player in NKY.  I would love to see the stats.. maybe threw over 250.. ran for another 150.  Some schools are missing out on a big time player.  Great athlete!

Geisler might be the best running back in NKY.  Leen for Cov Cath is right there with him.  He is running hard and just seems to be faster this year.  Reminds me of Warrick Dunn from FSU.

Would love to see a rematch.  I feel like Highlands holds a slight edge because they could of just ran the ball tonight and won.  They also could have just thrown it deep to their 4-6 wide receivers and scored that way.

Both teams were exposed tremendously last night. Cooper certaly could not stop the run game and Highlands certainly could not stop the Cooper passing game. Highlands was the better team last night and should be commended for the win. Both teams I’m sure will learn from it and get better.

While Benke certainly is an exceptional player and definitely deserves more credit and exposure for what he does for the Highlands offense, Austin Alexander is the best player in NKY and IMO top 5 in the State for what he does on both sides of the ball. Again, Benke is definitely a force and should be getting way  more exposure for what he brings to the table.

Good luck two both teams and the playoffs could and should be very interesting for all the teams coming out of this district.

Birds took the foot off of the gas. Could have done whatever they wanted. Final score was “Fools Gold” for Cooper.

Just Stop! Then why didn’t they? And not let it come down to an onside kick that actually took the bounce Cooper needed but Highlands got lucky they controlled it. And Highlands/Cooper only punted once each I think and they each had a turnover if I recall. So how could have Highlands done anymore. From the looks of play calling in the second half, Highlands was still trying to score when they could/should have been trying to eat more clock, hence they pick 6. As a fan base, Highlands was relieved they got the win. But win is a win. Lots to work on.
