With both teams starting the season with losses to lower class teams 2A(LCA) 3A(CAL). This game is a must win for both teams regarding RPI right? Assuming both teams are favorites in their districts and finish with similar records won’t this game be for home field in the playoffs round 2 or 3? Or am I way off? Too soon?

Stating the obvious, you always want to get out of the loss column whenever and as quickly as possible.  But if Bowling Green and Owensboro both win their districts then they couldn't meet again until Week 3 at the earliest and Week 3 and 4 are determined by RPI.  That's the way I understand it anyway.

Just like @Purple88said, the Henderson and Greenwood wins were nice wins, but they aren't state championship level wins.  Owensboro wins most of the games in which the talent discrepancy is clear but

We're daily now from 5-6 central time on 1027 The Game.  We'll be discussing it here and there on Wednesday and Thursday but we'll break it down at length on Friday.  Might have to get you to call in

  • I felt really good when LCA was winning 28-10.  But BG stormed back and actually left a few points on the field.  BG great QB and the sophomore WR is speedy.  I love playing BG again - don’t think we’

Game day! Gotta love the battle for the Natcher! Here's to an injury free contest.

Go Purples.

They will both meet. However, I think Owensboro sees BG or South Warren Round 2. Whoever loses between SW or BG will play Owensboro Round 2. If Owensboro gets past both in round 2 and 3 depending outcome of District 2 then they will go to the State Championship.

I think BG will come out and punish somone after last week

I think Greenwood will have something to say about the bold.  They can be at least 2nd in District 2 as they were last season.

The last sentence is bold, but certainly possible.

Greenwood is a big mystery to me right now, and after watching South Warren last Friday, I couldn't tell you who I would take in that game later this year.

That being said, I think we will learn a lot more about how serious the Gators are tonight against East. As it stands, I don't believe I could favor either of them in a matchup at Rash.

Bill,

Does BG beat Owensboro at Rash? I think this will be harder then everyone thinks.

Short answer, yes. I believe they do.

I also agree with you that it will not be easy by any means. However, if there is no adjustment to the run defense of the Purples from last week then toss my prediction in the trash can. In my lifetime, I have never seen a BGHS defense be annihilated in that fashion. I hope I never have to again.

Eager to see how Owensboro handles Bailey after Hodge had a big night against them last week. Hodge is a good athlete, Bailey is a better one. If he can do his thing, I don't see the Devils pulling this off, even at Rash. I'll take the Purples by two scores, minimum.

Good points DMC!  I have to think the heat will also be a big factor tonight.  BG players were falling like flies last Saturday.  If they don't come prepared (hydrated, etc.) then the main players we think about could be sitting on the bench with a bunch of bananas.  I look for Owensboro to try to run Winstead as much as they can.  They have a pretty good line and will likely line up and run LCA plays until BG can stop them.  Can they is the question.

I looked at a little of the replay of the game last Saturday and the BG LB took terrible pursuit angles to the ball carriers.  That has to improve tonight.  Both BG safeties were the leading tacklers.  That's not typical for BG and speaks to 7-8 new D starters.  But I look for BGs offense to be explosive tonight.  O will have to take some chances and send the blitz IMO to have a chance to get off the field without a turnover.

I think it will be a close game at least for awhile.  But BG should score into the 40s tonight especially when the O defense gets more heat fatigued.

Never a good sign.

I noticed Hampton's not credited with any rushes against CAL, only receptions. Have to think that changes tonight to spell Winstead. More touches for Hampton can only be a good thing for Owensboro, even as a sophomore.

I am really bullish on this kid. I think he has what it takes to be one of the best RB/slot reciever Owensboro has fielded in a long time. I don’t think he’s on Hensleys level from LCA yet, but has similar speed and a strong runner. I think he has a big night tonight…   Question.. Is BG’s offense that much better than CAL’s? I see a lot of people predicting 40 plus points on the BG side.

I can't really compare the offensive lines of BG or CAL, but Huddleston is a great RB, better than anyone CAL has this year, I think. It's very difficult to replace a back like Gavin Copenhaver.

QB and WR are a push.

I hope not!  But both teams will be ready to play hard.  I expect BG at its best.
