Monster game in Canton, Ohio, this Saturday between St. Edwards (Cleveland) and Center Grove of Indiana. St. Eds is the two time defending champions of Ohio's Division I, while Center Grove has conquered Indiana's largest classification (6A) three years running. Both are rated as the #1 overall team in their respective state this season.

Trinity travels to Center Grove in a couple of weeks.

If I can remember to, I'll post the score from the St. Eds/CG game.

St. Eds rode a stifling defense to a 27-10 win over Center Grove this afternoon. CG's lone touchdown came in the final moments of a game that was, for all intents and purposes, already over.

The Eagles have to be a heavy, heavy favorite to lift another Ohio 'big school' championship.

The Center Grove schedule does not get any easier in coming weeks. They play Oakland (TN), Trinity (KY), Moeller (OH), and Harvest Prep (OH) before playing an in state opponent.

Last night he had a couple of tackles for loss, playing with an hyperextended thumb which he got the day before in practice. He said after the game it was killing him. He couldn't get a hold of anything with his left hand. He played through to the 4th quarter when they pulled the starters, though.

Turns out it wasn't a hyperextended thumb. More like a broken thumb with joint involvement. He is cleared to play tonight. Hope it doesn't rain much.

Greater Catholic League - South

McCallie (TN) 34 St. Xavier (2-1) 11

Elder (2-1) 28 Springboro 7

LaSalle (2-1) 14 Fairmont 7

East Central (IN) 38 Moeller (1-2) 28

I was at EC-Moe game. EC was without one of their best players (ejected last week, had to sit out this week) and still took it to the Crusaders. The Trojans are definitely a top 5 greater Cincinnati team.

* Clearwater opened with a nice drive to go up 7-0, then another short drive. Countryside had a nice drive in the 1st quarter as well. What should have been a 14-6 at the end of the 1st ended up 36-6 thanks to two consecutive drives by Countryside that ended with a pick six, and another where the receiver fumbled the ball for a nice scoop and score for Clearwater. It was a running clock by halftime.
