swamprat
This Friday and Saturday is basically pre-season and jamboree week in Florida. I do not understand Florida's transfer rules, but my grandson is back with Countryside playing OLB, now. He's gotten much bigger, Max Preps lists him at 6'2" 215. He plays a little TE on offense, too, now. Last week, Countryside played in a jamboree at IMG Academy against IMG's White and Blue teams and St. Petersburg Catholic. They beat the Blue team, lost to the White team, and dominated St. Pete Catholic. The grandson had a really good day, catching a TD in the game against the White team, and forcing a fumble in the SPC game. He had 10 tackles. That campus is bigger than some colleges I've been to and the living quarters are amazing. We (daughter, son-in-law, and in-laws parents) got to walk around some before and after the games. Their two practice fields separate from the main stadium, one turf, one natural grass, are impressive to say the least. They hosted a cookout after the games for all the players involved and their families.
DevilMayCare
@swamprat, what is Countryside's outlook this season? And has your grandson's maturation helped draw any college attention?
DevilMayCare
Monster game in Canton, Ohio, this Saturday between St. Edwards (Cleveland) and Center Grove of Indiana. St. Eds is the two time defending champions of Ohio's Division I, while Center Grove has conquered Indiana's largest classification (6A) three years running. Both are rated as the #1 overall team in their respective state this season. Trinity travels to Center Grove in a couple of weeks. If I can remember to, I'll post the score from the St. Eds/CG game.

newarkcatholicfan
Here is my article on the Galion 28-20 win over Wynford. Last night I made my first trip to Wynford High School to kick off my 2023 regular-season high school football season. Besides some early rain with some heavy wind, this was a very good trip, with the game being very close. Early in this season, Galion would make a big statement with their running game when Gabe Ivy followed some nice work from his offensive line on third and eight, where he picked up the first down, with his 9-yard gain. The Wynford defense would shake off that big play with a sack on Braxton Prosser by Bryce Locker after Prosser bobbled the snap. At the 6:00 minute mark of the opening quarter, Kaiden Blair gallopped for a 17-yard gain. That would be the highlight of the drive. DevilMayCare
@newarkcatholicfan, is that the same Wynford program that had a long regular season win streak about 10-15 years ago? I'm thinking the streak was somewhere around 60 or 70 games.
DevilMayCare
Consensus #1 team in the country, Mater Dei (CA), beat Centennial HS (CA) 28-14. Centennial is rated #4 in California and a top 40 team nationally.
Devils Fan
Got a chance to watch Mater Dei last year. You don’t even feel like you’re watching high school football they are that good. Your hear people say oh that team could compete with a small college but it’s usually a figure of speech. Not with Mater Dei they really are like a small college, they play with such high intensity too.

And has your grandson's maturation helped draw any college attention? If last night's preseason game with Northeast was any indication, Countryside may in for a long year. The defense is solid, but the offense was not good. However, they only ran 6 different plays last night. The Cougars are in Class 3M Region 2 District 7 with Seminole, Osceola, and Largo. Their schedule is a bit weird. They only have 4 road games and all of their district games are at home. If they can generate some points, they have at least a chance at the playoffs. My grandson had an amazing summer, if your a kid that loves playing football. He attended the USF, Notre Dame, and Michigan State camps. Iowa State and Virginia have contacted him after seeing him in the spring. If he continues to improve and with his contacts, he may get more interest. I'm biased and not expert by any stretch, so take that for what it's worth. 😁 Last night he had a couple of tackles for loss, playing with an hyperextended thumb which he got the day before in practice. He said after the game it was killing him. He couldn't get a hold of anything with his left hand. He played through to the 4th quarter when they pulled the starters, though.

Those are some big time camps. Just playing in Florida is a good way to get the exposure necessary to land a D1 scholarship. Best of luck to him in his pursuits, both on and off the field.
