January 15, 200719 yr I have to disagree with that. I think that is one of the reasons why alot of recruits decide to go to other places over UK. Because most of these other schools like Duke and UNC seem like alot more fun places to play in. Those places are usually loud and into it every game. While at Rupp the place is usually dead for the most part, and might get loud for a minute in the game then dead silent for ten minutes. The only time Rupp is loud and crazy like those places is when we play UL, Florida, or some team ranked in the top 10... Thats another reason why teams seem not to be that afraid to play at Rupp because they play at places alot more crazier and roudier than Rupp. So Rupp is not intimidating to these young players anymore. Until UK decides to put more students down by the court like other schools, Rupp will be a dead place and not help UK when it comes to home court advantage, and would also possibly lose us some recruits... Or like last night. Rupp isn't real loud when playing Upstate South Carolina and the like, but when the season starts for real it is second to none...Do you go to a lot of games at Rupp??? Did you go last night? The Rupp Arena you are talking about isn't the same one I go to... And more fun to play in front of 9000 rather than 24000? Please.
January 15, 200719 yr I think he was impressd with UK's new $30 million practice facilities You would have to be blind not to be. John Mason said it all when he said UK's facility rivals anything he has seen at the NBA level.

In fact most people I have heard from agree with me that Rupp for the most part is really dead usually. I admit last nights game did get loud during the last 5 minutes of the game, which is good because UK needed the crowd to get into it. But all these other places it doesn't take for your team to come close to losing before the crowd decided to get into it. As I said in my previous post the only games where the crowd really seem to be into it is for the UL, Florida, and just any game against top 10 teams. Other than that it takes a close game going down to the wire before the crowd decides to get into it... I wouldn't be saying this stuff if it wasn't true. I mean I wish Rupp was more of a exciting place to play but it really isnt..And you know what I guarntee you that most of the kids who play basketball today would say it is more fun playing in front of 9000 crazy fans at Duke, than it is playing in Rupp today. Now if we had 24,000 crazy fans cheering during the whole game then it wouldn't be close Rupp would be the more fun place to play, but it is not. We have student behind one basket and in one small corner of the lower arena. While the rest of the students are up top. So most of the people in the lower arena are people who are not going to stand up and go crazy during the game. They might stand up when we are on a 10 to 0 run, or if the game really gets close, but other than that it is dead during most of the game. And that is why also alot of teams are not in afraid in playing at Rupp. I bet if you took a poll of basketball players today that say have played at Rupp and at Duke, they would say it is alot harder playing in front of the crazy crowd at Duke than at UK...
January 15, 200719 yr Brewer, Horford and Noah will be playing for pay in 07... Agreed, and if they hold up the title again this year there is no reason for Pat not to go there to start a dynasty.....

If you are a student at UK, I've been to about 200 more games in Rupp than you...Students have more lower arena seats now than ever...students shouldn't have many lower arena seats. Adults pay for UK athletics...and besides, you aren't supposed to stand the whole game to watch a basketball game...I've heard TV announcers say a million times that they have never heard it louder than Rupp when it is rocking... BTW, it's hard to win at Cameron because Duke always has the best players and coach, not because there are a few thousand students standing around the court...
January 15, 200719 yr The time's i've been to Rupp have been pretty dead... However I haven't been to a big time game yet.

I agree Duke does usually have some of the best players..But as I said I bet if you took a poll on basketball players that have played lately at Rupp and Duke they would say it is alot more harder playing in front of the crowd at Duke than Rupp, and that would have nothing to do with the players on the court... As for what you said about when the announcers have said a million times that haven't heard anything louder than Rupp when is is rocking you would be right. Because when the crowd does decide to get into it, it is very loud...But thats the thing, the crowd doesn't get into it that much. For most of the game it is dead. And if you have been to so many more games than me, I would think you would realize that. I will say it one more time, Rupp is usually dead except for when we play UL, UF, or a top 10 team. Of if we are on a 10 to 0 scoring run or if the game is going down to the wire then the crowd gets into it like they did last night. But other than those few circumstances the crowd at Rupp is usually dead, and I dont know how you can not admit that. And that is why these other places would be more intimidating for kids to play at these days because places like Duke, etc. are usually loud and screaming the whole game and that makes it alot harder on the other teams...
January 15, 200719 yr The time's i've been to Rupp have been pretty dead... However I haven't been to a big time game yet. Thank you, you are helping me with me point that I just made it post #50. Rupp usually is pretty dead unless we are playing a team like UL, UF, or a top 10 team. But when we do play those types of team, Rupp is second to none because during those games the place is rocking. But it is usually only during those games when it is rocking, and the other games are usually pretty dead...

Yeah well if there was no students there would be no University of Kentucky, and that would mean there would be no basketball team. The students who are attending the university should be able to be closer to the floor than anyone, because it is their school that is playing on the court...
January 15, 200719 yr I bet if you took a poll of basketball players today that say have played at Rupp and at Duke, they would say it is alot harder playing in front of the crazy crowd at Duke than at UK... Don't go to far out on that limb.. Duke has the biggest home court advantage in basketball, period. They play in a cracker box gym and the fans are litteraly only a few feet from the floor. Nothing you can do to Rupp or the people in Rupp would give it the edge over Duke. Even if you filled the lower level with Duke's students, Rupp still wouldn't have the same advantage as Cameron due to eveyone being farther from the court. However that doesn't mean Rupp isn't one of the best. IMO you can't compare small gyms like Cameron and PhogAllen with the largers ones like Rupp and the DeanDome.
January 15, 200719 yr Not true, I said at that age I would, not he would. Dont change my words to help your post please. My mistake.

I think if the lowered arena was filled with mostly students going all away around the court like at Duke, that it would be even a more intimidating place to play than Cameron. Because not only would you have crazy students around the court, but you still also have a 24000 seat arena that would be full every night to go along with all the crazy students around the court. Rupp areana would be alive and energized for most of the game, instead of being dead for most of the game like it is now usually...

It's about students getting more lower arena tickets. It will never happen. Like you said, nowhere louder than Rupp when it counts...

I say no and are not even sellouts alot of time with alot less capacity
January 15, 200719 yr PP also said he didn't like Cameron Indoor Stadium either. Said that it was very old. Yet he will be visiting there in a few weeks for a game. His parents are going to move wherever he goes. Maybe it is Florida. Maybe it is Wake? In the end, OTS has done everything humanly possible to woo the kid. He has been in on him longer than anyone except Wake. He has playing time on down the line. If it is Florida, then chalk one up to Donovan and staff.
