8th Region Week 10 Review

It has been pretty calm this week, not a ton of major upsets. Heres a couple takeaways...

North Oldham proves they are the most definite front-runner for their second consecutive region title with a convincing win over Spencer County

The 31st now has a 2-way tie for the #2 seed in their district, Eminence and Gallatin County split their head-to-head so there will be a coin flip to decide the #2 seed.

Oldham County avenged their loss against Doss earlier in the season (who had not won a game at the time) with a 30-point blowout win tonight against them.

Owen County continues to dominate the 31st... against the 31st district (including non-seeding games) they are now 12-0, and are winning on average by 23.25 ppg. Their closes contest was against Gallatin County by 8 points, but Teagan Moore did not play in that game. In games that Moore played in their closest contest was 15 points to Eminence. They are scoring on 75ppg against district opponents.

Other than Grant County and Walton-Verona tomorrow night there isn't much good competition within the 8th Region until Friday night.

That was quite the windy rant - and wrongheaded. I need to go out and touch some grass.  Someone was good enough to point out that there are other options. I am, despite what I posted, not an exp

Players who went Division 1 ...   Since it looks like we are now looking at all the 8th over the last 15 or so years... besides the ones already mentioned, above...   just a few that popped into my mind...

Joe Griffin, South Oldham  (University of Louisville)

David Levitch, North Oldham (University of Louisville)

Donta Smith, Oldham County (signed with Univ of Louisville, went JUCO, then NBA)

Davion McKnight, Collins     (WKU)

Marcellus Vail, Collins      (Samford)

Dieonte Miles, Walton-Verona   (Xavier)

Mike Hester, Simon Kenton  (the current W-V coach was signed by Union College out of HS, but finished his career at D1 Northern Kentucky.   Small asterisk....NKU was a D2 power when Mike attended, but transitioned to D1 just a year or two later, starting in 2012).

The above doesn't include the 8th region basketballers like Sam Royalty of Henry County, who went Division 1 in football (EKU).

Don't forget Shelby's A.J. Slaughter to WKU.

The word on the street is Williams will become a Ky. State Trooper.

I can confirm that he is not going to become a state trooper.

Ok, that figures, a woman that goes to church with his family was the source.

I don’t think he’s giving up his nfl dream yet. Probably will be back in the Raiders training camp again.

A couple of interesting games tonight....

Owen County at Anderson County

Owen County has exceeded all predictions from the pre-season, and are a very legitimate contender for the regional title. Anderson County started off the season aflame including a huge upset over Collins, but have cooled off as of late. Can they pull off another upset?

Spencer County at Walton-Verona

This has the potential to be an amazing game. Both teams play the exact same style and if hitting shots, is a recipe for a ton of points. WV normally shoots lights out at home, can Spencer keep up with them on the road to avoid the upset?

Grant County at Shelby County

This one is no doubt all Grant County on paper. However, it is in Shelby County on a Friday night, I am sure the band will be rocking and the stands will be full. Can their community will them to an upset over one of the top teams in the region?

My Picks

Owen County: I think Moore is too much to handle, Anderson doesn't have a body to match up with him

Walton-Verona: WV is going to shoot lights out, and with a bad Spencer County shooting night they will get the upset

Grant County: I will take to Braves, but it might be a little closer than expected

One other thing... all the district tournaments are set! I will have all the brackets posted on Sunday.

SK beat Mason Co. 45-42.  Crazy season.

I was told Mason was missing a lot of their team, is this true?

Unsure, I wasn't able to watch and/or listen.

Henry who is Mason’s best player was out but other than that there were no starters missing.
