I thought that Listerman and MINNIE-ME ( his son ) were very intimidating last night.They had the refs ear all night last night.I am not saying that it changed the outcome of the game but they did get the refs attention alot.

Minnie-me seems to have alot to say for being the assistant coach,usually they keep the head coach calm...but not in this case.

If Nic Simpson can get some help next year, he's my front runner for player of the year, 2008. If he's going to get as much attention as he did last night, he's going to wear down in games and his stats will suffer. He made shots last night I have not seen anyone make all year.

To be honest, if I'm Willie I want only 2 refs. He teaches them to play very aggressive defense and there's a lot of contact. 3 officials might lead to more foul calls against HHS and their short bench would be a problem in that case.

 

That's fine and that may be true; however, district and regional play requires 3 officials so HHS should get used to it. 2 officials probably gave them the best opportunity to win last night though, and it seems to me that HHS fans are certain Willie isn't worried about the future...

These games always seem to be close. In a game like this I dont think there an ever be a huge underdog.

For the most part, you're right; however, in '03 CCH was an underdog and walked out of Ft. Thomas with a win. They handed HHS 1 of their 2 regular season losses. The other loss was to eventual state champ Mason County in the 5/3 Classic, if I remember correctly. Later that year they met in the 1st round of the region and HHS stuck it to the Colonels...bigtime.

 

In '04, HHS was the underdog and CCH drilled the Birds...bigtime

Not sure about the short bench part, the Birds dress 12 or so players for varsity games.

 

In the regular season, it's up to the host school to determine how many officials they have. I've heard more often than not that the third official in many games actually leads to less calls. Too many officials worried about their "space" and rotation.

Mr. Listerman teaches a very physical style also...as witnessed by the hackin' attackin' guards hounding the HHS players all night. HHS just beefs underneath!! A 3rd official would call alot of those...

Very rarely will a Willie Schlarmann coached team be involved in a blowout, one way or the other. Even at Brossart he played a very slow tempo physical style that kept games low scoring and tight. IMO, It has kept his teams in games in which they probably should have been blownout , and it has also kept them close in games they should have been way ahead.
