Is this the year that Mayfield breaks through and wins their first title since 2015?  I can't recall the Cardinals having a dry spell like that in recent history.  Of course, most programs would love to have a "dry spell"  where they get to the finals or semi-finals almost every year.  But it is unusual to see a class go through Mayfield without winning a ring--having 3 consecutive senior classes pass through without one is almost unheard of. 

I will be happy if Mayfield wins because no offense to private school fans but I’m always going to pull for the public schools but unfortunately with the high that Lexington Christian and Beechwood has been on I can’t see them winning the state. And I know before anyone gets on here and acts like I’m saying those two teams haven’t been good in the past because they have but these last couple years they seem like they could beat anyone in the state not named Trinity, St X. or Male.

Well, they did play in 3 straight title games in 17, 18 and 19.

 

I would say that LCA is again the team to beat even through they haven't won anything. I'm going to say Mayfield and Beechwood stack up pretty close now that Hergott is gone.

Beechwood is a public school just like Mayfield.

The last private school to win 2A was CAL in 2018. (Beechwood 2020 and 21; Somerset 2019).

Mayfield, for the first time in 3 years, finally has a team that has the chance to be very relevant in the title talk.  A few uncertains are out there, we lost alot of housing from the tornado but hopefully we retain everyone.  Im excited about out LB group the most.  I expect the QB play to be pretty good and we have a RB that is one of the best we have had in a long time.  THE WR's will be a good group.  The group I wish I knew more about is the line play.  I have heard they should be pretty good but I will have to find out more to know how I feel about that group.

My mistake for some reason I always thought they were private. I guess because of their success over the years I just assumed it.

@Joe Tracyyes, Mr. Starks is related to that group that was out of Lone Oak, I expect Mayfield to make it to Kroger Field, pending any injuries, suspensions or natural disasters.
