If the best team is the desire, then runner ups shouldn't be allowed to continue. I always felt the best team will deservedly win out, whether it be in the first round or the championship.

I start by saying: go seed. It is no doubt the best way to reward the kids for winning during the regular season. Make the kids play in January and February. But, put yourself in the shoes of the schools who know that they just cannot make it, and for the kids, small weak schools will always draw. After all, the kids are why coaches and AD's do what they do.

To fix it all, force the state to go to all teams seed. Put the monkey on their back.

I wish we would do away with the District Tourneys and just make everyone allowed into the Regional Tourney! No one would be left out and you would have some great games. You could still do it in the 2 week period that we have for districts and region, so it wouldn't take any longer. You could also have to play everyone in your region for seeding purposes or you could still seed from the districts, all the #1 seeds in all districts get to play a last place team in another district or something, would be great to see and it would make for a fun tourney!

Those of you who are for seeding are, I'm sure, consistent in your positions. Therefore, I will assume that you support seeding the state tournament. You don't seed at one level and abandon it at another level because, by doing so, your argument loses much of its credibility.

I agree that you should seed and the KHSAA should mandate this to all member schools. However, to make it fair for the most important people in this equation, the athletes; we should have a class system that schools of like sizes can compete. Of course this will never happen because of the almighty dollar that comes in with the sacred boys state tournament. Heaven forbid we would put the student athlete first in making decisions.

I love the blind draw. The tension during the school day as the coaches leave to go to the draw. The hallway talk, have you heard we drew yet????? And then the announcement at the end of the day of whether we have a hard first game or an easy.

How about the regional tournament? There is not really seeding there. My senior year in HS, as a winner of the district, we drew the #1 team in the state, GRC, who was upset by Montgomery County in the finals of the district.

 

And who the winners play is determined by a blind draw and not any seeding purposes.

Never understood why we draw for the All A tourney, Regional Tourney, and State tourney, but they have to try and seed some districts! Doesn't make any sense to me! Either draw for all or seed all, but not both! Doesn't make much sense!

Hoopsrbest, I love the class system, I had that in high school. It is a great setup. We took the final four teams in your class (say 4A) to the state tournament.

They could do that here as well. Take the top 4 teams in 4 classes, and you could still have the Sweet 16, just have 8 semi finals games and 4 finals, would still be a good tourney.

The reason you can seed at the district level is that all the teams can play each other twice during the regular season - so there is no voting - it is strictly based on the team's record against the other schools in the district. You can't play every school in the region twice to get a true seeding for the regional tournament without some sort of vote - same for the state tournament.
