I think he was saying Rose Hill and Russell have had the best showing outside of the 16th. While Ashland did play well against Madison Central, getting beat by Ironton and destroyd by Mason doesnt say much. Ashland does play a tough schedule, I do think that Russell and Rose Hill have a slight edge over them.

let me preface this by saying its easy to have a losing record if you play nothing but tough teams and its easy to have a winning schedule if you have nothing but easy teams.

 

i will give ashland credit for playing NOTHING but road games nearly the entire first month of the season.

 

4 of the 6 teams ashland has beaten has losing records.

the teams they have beaten are a combined 25-27 and im not even sure of the ohio team they beat and how good/bad they might be

 

they have lost to 3 teams with combined records of 33-5 and you throw out that mason game and they played both madison and iroquois and yes im aware it took a half court shot to lose that game, but a loss is a loss.

 

i see ashland as a team that will play teams tough as they always do, but when it comes down to playing the states best, they will come up short more often than not.

 

4 of 6 boyd's wins have come against teams with losing records.

30-44 is the combined record of teams they have beaten

 

they have lost to teams with a combined record of 23-9 and that includes ashland. no need to rehash the scott game, but they did play elliot well.

 

i see boyd the same as ashland, they will play you tough, but they dont have enough horses to challenge against really good teams.

 

rose hill has 4 wins against teams with winning records, im not sure how good or bad that ohio team they beat is. the combined record of their teams is

36-43. yes, the final score against ballard was 30 and they lost to doss by 14

 

last but not least russell has 6 of their 8 wins against teams with winning records. we all know how well they played and should have beaten mason.

 

long story longer, ashland and boyd both had their shot and got beat by a combined 75 points.

 

yes, the hill lost by 30 and 14, but i thought they really played well and actually stayed in the game. i never thought ashland or boyd had a chance and i know im not the only one who thinks russell probably should have beaten mason.

 

if anyone has taken time to read all this, THANK YOU. it doesnt mean ANYTHING when march madness gets here, but debating and discussing is what makes this board fun.

 

last but certaintly not least, i know the POINT of this thread was to discuss the top 4 in the 16th. from what i have seen so far, i just think the hill and russell have seperated themselves and the rest of the 16th is a jumbled mess.

After a couple of years in Purgatory, it is good to see Rose Hill on the rise. However, I still think they are, most likely, a year away. Russell is the class of the region and any of six or so teams may well be number two.

 

Of course, next year could be quite different when it could well be Rose Hill and Elliott County with the others somewhat behind.

HC, good post, but I cant say that I agree with Rose Hill being a team that has seperated themselves in this region. They have played some good games, and played with some good teams, but I dont think that moral victories seperate yourself from other teams. Though I do believe they are the number 2 team in this region right now, the number 3, 4, 5, and possibly 6 teams are just as good as they are. I do agree that Russell has though.

I think the Rose Hill/Fairview game and the Russell/Raceland game would support your thoughts. I think it is just a great deal of fun for my team to be included in the discussion.

Where will the 64th District tournament be played? The host school is immaterial because of the slick job that was worked last year that resulted in only Ashland or Boyd County being allowed to serve as the future venue for the tournament. At least the tournament won't be seeded and, hopefully, the smaller schools will continue to be smart enough to avoid the seeding trap.

Actually the slick job was done 2 years ago. This years host is Boyd and it will be played at Boyd. Next years host is Ashland and it will be played at Ashland and the following year the host is Fairview and it won't be played at Fairview.

Could you explain the slick job to me once again? Is that the one where the rules established by the KHSAA were actually followed by the member schools of the 64th district?

Those teams that win those district games probably think they should be rewarded come tournament time. Seeding is a great motivator for kids to really play hard during the regular season because something IS on the line. The blind draw format is right up there with "no child left behind" in my book. :fight:
