Covington Catholic at Ashland Blazer Predictions/Updates

Featured Replies

Number 3 ranked Covington Catholic visits number 5 ranked Ashland Blazer Saturday in what should be one of the best games in the state this weekend.

Two of the best guards in the state will make it very entertaining and interesting matchup. Ashland’s Colin Porter, who has committed to Liberty University, runs the show for the Tomcats and is the straw that stirs the drink for them. The same can be said of the Colonels Evan Ipsaro who orchestrates their offense and is their leading scorer. Both players are surrounded by plenty of talent and guys who can score.
The Colonels are bigger than the Tomcats and will probably rely quite a bit on an inside game but can also make their share of shots from behind the arc. The Tomcats are a mostly guard team that likes to spread the floor with dribble penetration and kick outs for 3’s. They have made over 200 treys for the season.

Game time is 6:00pm and will be streamed live by Mytowntv.

Super intriguing game, and while you're dead-on about the match-up of elite guards, I love your latter point.  Can the Tomcats neutralize the Colonels' size, and, or, can the Colonels capitalize on their size advantage around the basket.

Going to be a great one!!!

When the Tomcats have multiple players hitting 3's from all directions it's fun to watch. If they have one of those nights it will be a good game, if not, it could be a long night for the Cats. They have proven they can find a way to win on "off-shooting" nights but that would be a tall task against Catholic. Both teams are well coached, highly disciplined, and very unselfish. Should make for a great night of basketball.

Keep us informed if this game is still a go with the current weather as it is.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate. The game per KHSAA website is scheduled for tomorrow at 6pm.

Yeah, I know, just can't trust that site when a 3 hour one way drive is involved.  I have been there and done that and got burnt.

We got about 3” of snow today with less than inch expected overnight. Then at most flurries tomorrow the nor’easter is only bringing snow into the WV mountains so should be good to go.

“That site” is updated by the teams. If you drove three hours and a game wasn’t played, the fault lies with the two teams participating, not the KHSAA scoreboard.

I found this on twitter.

Looks like the game is still on.

After 1st quarter:

Ashland 20

Cov. Cath. 15

At the half Ashland leads 37-26.

Ashland leads 48-38 after three quarters.

Third quarter began with a 11 point Covington run.

With 3:13 remaining in the game, Ashland leads 58-44.
