I think his personality and temperament were the biggest issues here, he just doesn’t fit. A lot of people were wrong on that, myself included. 

Mack is a sourpuss. I have always wondered how he got recruits to want to play for him. I never expected him to have the success he did at Xavier. Obviously he can coach. Players did develop for him at Xavier. To your point though, that sourpuss demeanor might not work at UL.

Cronin may not be the "sexy" pick, but I believe the city would embrace him again.

It would work if you win enough. But you can't close off the locker room, be combative with media, say you don't know how to motivate your team and then not win enough on top of all that.

Based on the little bit of research that I did yesterday, I believe Mack is getting paid more for this season than Pearl is.  Pearl is due a raise for next season at Auburn though, which would then put him over Mack.

*I didn't compare any incentive bonuses though.

They'd pay Pearl $5 million a year if they went after him, IMO.

Yeah, I'd think they'd have to.  At least that.  If I remember correctly what I read yesterday, Pearl is slated in his contract to get $4.3 million next year at Auburn, plus a string of incentives for team performance on and off the court.

Plus next year is the last year of his contract, so is Auburn willing to pony up with an extension, driving the Louisville price to need to be even hire than $5 million.

If Louisville decides to pursue Pearl, which I'm not convinced they will, money will not be a reason he doesn't take the job. I'm always confident that money will not be an issue here, for the right candidate.

From what I read yesterday, Mack was slated to get $250K raise this season and then another $250K raise in 2023.  So I'm thinking this list didn't include that raise for Mack.  I believe he would be like $4,250,000 and some change, plus incentives right now

I figure that list/link is a baseline that puts us close for reference but thanks for the additional. 

Hopefully this doesn't really threadjack, but I see Pearl staying at Auburn for now and then jumping to take Kentucky (which might be weird since its in the SEC) or North Carolina.

I'm totally throwing UNC out of nowhere because they always hire within and I haven't read anything to make me believe that.  But I feel like UNC would absolutely love Pearl and it would be a great fit.

 I just don't see Pearl going to UL.  But if he did, that would be an awesome hire I think. I'm a big Pearl guy.

My absolute favorite part of the Bruce Pearl talk is watching UK fans squirm over it. Check out the replies to this Matt Jones tweet to see what I'm talking about. 

 

I wonder if Mack might end up back at Xavier. Travis Steele has winning records but post season failure. It is looking to me like Steele is a very good recruiter and average coach. XU has not made the tournament under Steele. Mack was in the tournament every year except one in his tenure. If Steele fails again to get in the tournament and Mack is available, I wonder if XU would look at bringing Mack back. Mack is the winningest coach in XU history.
