NKY 5A District Playoffs

Here is a question for the Cov Cath faithful.  Do you think Eddie would ever fathom the idea of laying an egg against Ryle and playing it like a NFL Preseason game.  Let 1st stringers play maybe a series or two, then resting them the rest of the game and throwing your JV team in there?

In the grand scheme of things the game is irrelevant for the "End Game".

Or is there too many things he feels like he needs to work on to not take a game off and play is starters in the full game.

Really doesn’t matter. Highlands comes out of this region in the playoffs. Colonels Cougs or Jags any field. Nobody wants Birds coming off the bye week round one. Highlands is going to be healthy and ready. Go Birds!

Wow. Highlands offense held scoreless by Cov Cath and only scored  on a bad snap. But ok.  And CovCath at home. Any given Friday I guess….

My answer to that is this game is where you start your state title run. You schedule a tough opponent to uncover flaws - and if you lose because a weakness in your team is exposed, your season isn't over and it makes you even better prepared for the playoff elimination games. You schedule a tough opponent to get your team ready to win a state title. If Coach Eviston wanted to take a week off, he wouldn't have scheduled a team like Ryle. If you want to win a state title, you schedule a tough opponent and you start your playoff run trying to win this game.

Let’s do it. The changes made to the offense getting Noon to RB is a big deal. Keep Benke at a big body at Wr.  Then put Bottom in at QB who can see the field and make the right choices. Everyone is getting healthy and two weeks to focus. I truly believe Birds come out of this region this year, sure I could be wrong. Let’s play!

Interesting take...using that logic then I guess Highlands, Conner and Cooper might as well pack up their locker room and get ready for 2022 and do better with their scheduling.

Friday's schedule for the rest of the District:

Highlands - Bye

Conner - GRC

Cooper - Louisville Butler

That is a very good write up by the way and makes a LOT of sense.

Plus if Noon gets a wildcat package. Watch out. It’s hard to practice for because you got one game of film of Noon at RB.

Conner and Cooper are both playing 6A opponents, just like CCH. Same philosophy of getting team ready for the playoffs and looking for weaknesses to fix. Just not playing as high a quality opponent as CCH is.

Plus you now have the added factor of RPI. Conner and Cooper face 6A opponents that have big school level players on the field and they are the favorites to win and get RPI points. CCH is taking more of a risk facing a team like Ryle, but CCH's program is in a place where they expect to win against everyone they play, and they get even more RPI points beating a high quality 6A school.

I am wondering how many schools have a Bye this week.  Would Sphire call around and just get a low key scrimmage to play.....

Or do you instead go to Park Hills and watch the Colonels live....

Bye, rest and preparation would seem to make the most sense.  Time will tell.

No one is going to scrimmage at this point in the year. The way this year has gone for Highlands, the bye might not be a bad thing because of the changing roles of players late in the year. They get a full week to work on things. I would spend this entire week getting ready for CCH. No slight to Cooper, but Highlands just played them. Drill this entire week on CCH and get the team prepared like no other for that match up. If it turns out you play Cooper in round 1, you still have your normal prep week for a team you just played.

This thread needed some spice. Obviously I could be wrong. Just seems in this group of teams there is not much separation. Highlands seems to have found the most dangerous recipe for player positions finally.  Noon may be the scariest player in the division. Conner Cooper and Cov Cath are all good teams, should be entertaining playoffs.

The move to Bottom at QB was brilliant... keeping both Noon and Benke as weapons really does open up the opportunities for the Highlands offense.... I also thought it was by far the best the O-line has played all year.

It will be interesting to see how either CovCath or Cooper, with a week or two of preparation will attack the New look Highlands Offense.... Caught Cooper by surprise so they didn't have many blitz packages ready for the young QB.   As a result he had plenty of time to throw and did so excellently.... Will CovCath and Cooper change that philosophy and attack the young QB with various blitz packages and disguised coverages?   Will be fun to watch the chess match between coaches... because it's my opinion that physically all three teams are very evenly matched....

I would focus on stopping Noon first and then try to figure the rest of it out.

I would also make sure to give Noon a workout when he is playing defense like Elder (OH) did back in the day with Brett Hamblen.
