Not sure yet on the pig but we have made significant upgrades in the tailgate site and War Memorial Stadium has been thru a upgrade and is now sponsored by the same regional bank that carries the name of the Murray State facilities, CFSB.  We certainly want to extend a invite on whatever we end up cooking, whether it be pig or big game cat,  to our Beechwood friends that we have missed seeing as of late.

The loss to Somerset was and still is hard to swallow, the Danville and LCA games not so much so.  The thing about the Somerset loss for me was the catch at midfield prior to the pass interference.  After the chains reset, the clock should have started and it didnt and the catch was inbounce.  That lil bit of time remaining could have been the difference but it is what it is.  We have won a couple of times when we likely shouldnt have and when you have been to as many title games as we have it all eventually washes out but that doesn't mean I will ever like it.  

Im not sure Mayfield has gone anywhere either. When was the last time they have lost more then two games in a season? Its been a while! I will say this and I mean no dissrepsct by it: Mayfield went through most of their really dominant stretch (2010-15) in a much weaker 1A landscape. Not much competition outside of some okay Beechwood teams. They have not had that level of success since bumping up to 2A with stiffer competition. I think the 10-15 stretch gave people unrealistic expectations and the last 6 years have led people to think Mayfield is down which isnt really true either. I think the 18 and 19 teams were about as good as they have had in a very long time.

With the current landscape of 2A football I'd say Mayfield should win a title every 3-5 years perhaps. It is all circumstantial of course.

They won a 2A title in 15. I’ve never thought Mayfield was down. They ran into some good teams. This year you have a dominant team in LCA. Mayfield will be there , they may or may not get by Beechwood but you still got to beat Mayfield to get to the title game. The road still goes through Mayfield.

Joe Morris has built this into a beast and it wants to get fed with victories and titles. This is the golden age of Mayfield football.

Actually it's not hardly as bad in 2A as stated.  We won the 2A title in 2015, our first year in 2A since 1994. We have also had several runner up finishes including 1 that just barrely got away.  That makes 4 trips to the title game in 6 season in 2A.  Not what we want here but far from a poor showing.  The pipeline through the younger grades looks as strong as ever so we maybe able to get another title before to long.

If you read carefully, I said for the most part their titles in that era came from 1A. I am aware of the 2A title in 15. They by no means have done bad in 2A, that’s why I said I don’t think they are down. I would just be surprised if they win 4 out 5 in 2A, or any other team for that matter. I still think Kentucky has too many classes but I guess that’s another topic.

Prediction: They will push for more kids to do virtual learning then apply to be reclassified back in to Class A. ?

The question of Mayfield future is really a question of how long they can keep their coaching staff together. 

 

They have a A+ staff and program. Neither of which are easy to establish in rural areas imo.

Mayfield 100% got hosed that last drive that is accurate, but they also were one yard away from being able to kneel out the game and had a lineman false start. That was the craziest sequence of events I have ever witnessed at a state title game.

The rumor has been for the last 5 years is that Morris is about to retire. I have heard it again this year. We all can dream, right? haha
