That's some cheap tuition Cov Cath has at 10,000. St.X is around 15,000 and I think Trinity is too. If they charged 10,000 would really be a power because enrollment would be much bigger at that cheaper rate. People don't realize how much tuition is a limiting factor. Many people that make too much to qualify for tuition aid send their kids to public schools.

Right, the reasonable tuition cost is one of the many reasons CCH is attractive to parents looking for the best for their children.

At a mere 7.1 miles away from Cov Cath, Elder is about $12K with fees.

McNick is 13.7 miles away and is also about $12K.

Roger Bacon is 9.6 miles away and is $9300.

Moeller is 17.2 miles away and is $14K, and St. X is 13.3 miles away and comes in just over $15K. Couldn't find any info on LaSalle's tuition.

The distance from Trinity High School in Louisville to Holy Cross High School in Louisville is 14.3 miles. DeSales and Trinity are 13.8 miles apart. As far as I know, no one around Louisville would really bat an eye if Trinity drew someone in who lived nearer to Holy Cross or DeSales. But in Northern Kentucky...that river...crossing that river makes it so, SO far away...

So what forms of assistance are offered to families that cannot afford to pay these tuition prices?

Maybe since the big city is across the river. Opposite in Louisville, maybe people over in Indiana would be not happy if Louisville kids flocked over to Providence. Definitely seems more of an issue in Northern KY.

Agreed. And it’s the only major private school in NKY. There are a bunch of them in Cincinnati, and that’s why it’s a non issue over there. So I think the river does make a difference. Those teams are competing against one another. CovCath has no real competitor in NKY when it comes to private schools.

I appreciate all of the info. And if the faithful are okay with it, it is what it is. I don’t believe it’s the same dynamic as it was 20 years ago though, unless someone can breakdown where the kids on the football team, 9-12 are living these days. I’m sure someone knows right?  I’m told the frosh are loaded with Ohio kids. Is that untrue?

If not, what changed. Has covcaths tuition not always been less than the Cincinnati schools?  The only reason I’m asking this stuff is out of curiosity. I’m fascinated with the differences between private and public and the challenges / advantages posed.  What seems to have taken place at CovCath the last 5+ years seems pretty unique, and where better to get the scoop.

I'm sure there are plenty of folks on the faculty and staff who have info on where the student body at Cov Cath currently lives. To the best of my knowledge they've never made a habit of mapping out everyone's homes. You'd probably have to reference them or a parent of one of the current freshmen at Cov Cath if you wanted an accurate idea on that...I've got no idea.

I can tell you, though, that the Colonel Youth Football program has been competing in the GCYL for several years now (at the invitation of the GCYL), and they have won multiple championships in that time. I wouldn't doubt that for some folks in Cincinnati, that makes the prospect of sending their sons to Cov Cath a little more intriguing.

Regardless, I just glanced at the current freshman roster. Jackson Reardon, Sam Pfeiffer, Ben Molique, Mason Dietz, Andrew Bessler, Ben McEvoy, Dylan Lanham, Nic Blanchet, Carson Brueggemann, Sammy Klaene, Mason Brandner, Sam Boyce...I didn't go through one by one, but those are a lot of guys on the freshman team whose dads and older brothers I know from their time at Cov Cath. I'm gonna guess "loaded with Ohio kids" is a bit of an overstatement.

I know at one time kids could could work at the school doing all sorts of chores and things to bring it down.

Correct. Most Catholic schools also have an after school work-study program where students assist the janitorial staff (among other things) to help defer costs in the school. The work-study program falls under "need-based aid" under the KHSAA guidelines (all contained under Bylaw 11), and follows a very specific set of rules about which students qualify for that particular form of financial assistance.

At St.X a 3rd party company out of Chicago handles tuition aid applications. I applied for my son and it was like applying for mortgage with all the financial documents had to submit. I was denied so went and got 2nd job to pay. I believe the company tells the school how much tuition the applicant can afford and then the school gives the difference for all applicants until donated funds are exhausted. I know kids at public schools that applied and were denied aid so why they're not at St.X.

Not sure why I'm contributing to answering something somebody was "told", but the CovCath frosh team is not loaded with Ohio kids. On to the next message board firestorm. And even if they were, so what. Once they've enrolled at CovCath, they are Colonels.
