I remember them being extremely competitive, great even, in the 90s.

I was there in the late 1980's when they were winning the first 2 state championships.   Then and in the 1990s and even into the really early 2000's, they were great.  A top 4 or 5 team in the state.   Things started declining towards the end of coach Ray's tenure.  My personal theory is that when the economy started heading south post 9/11, people started cutting back on what they spend and paying multi thousands to send a kid to private school was one of the first things to go.  Same thing happened again during the Brossart and Wirth years.  The housing market bust and the subsequent bailouts hurt the economy and people cut back on spending.  It started effecting all sports and people moaned and groaned.   Then things got better, and people are still moaning and groaning.  Some people are just content being malcontents.

I'm sure there are plenty of folks on the faculty and staff who have info on where the student body at Cov Cath currently lives. To the best of my knowledge they've never made a habit of mapping out e

At a mere 7.1 miles away from Cov Cath, Elder is about $12K with fees.

McNick is 13.7 miles away and is also about $12K.

Roger Bacon is 9.6 miles away and is $9300.

Moeller is 17.2 miles away and is $14K, and St. X is 13.3 miles away and comes in just over $15K. Couldn't find any info on LaSalle's tuition.

The distance from Trinity High School in Louisville to Holy Cross High School in Louisville is 14.3 miles. DeSales and Trinity are 13.8 miles apart. As far as I know, no one around Louisville would really bat an eye if Trinity drew someone in who lived nearer to Holy Cross or DeSales. But in Northern Kentucky...that river...crossing that river makes it so, SO far away...

Great point.  Trinity & St X pull a lot of kids from Southern Indiana, especially Floyd Co, but nobody really says anything about that.  There is one private school, Clarksville Providence, but nothing like Elder, Moeller, etc.  Honestly, playing for Cov Cath isn’t going to get you noticed more than playing for St X, LaSalle, Elder, etc. so there probably is something to the reasonable tuition.  As a parent, sometimes it’s about the fit for your child as well.  My son goes to Bullitt East & my daughter goes to CAL.  Both play sports, but neither had anything to do with why they’re at their respective schools.  It was about what fit best for them.

This makes the most sense to me thus far as for the perceived influx of cincy kids.

Speaking of colonel youth, how does that work for the teams that play in the NKMSAA? From what I understand the 7th graders (NKMSAA) have to attend a parochial school, no public. The younger teams (GCYL) just have to be parish members. But this year they have two 8th grade teams if I understand correctly. One playing GCYL and one playing NKMSAA. Do they really have one 8th grade team that consists solely of parochial students, and another 8th grade team that allows public school kids?

*not sure what’s up the quote. It was in regards to colonel youth playing in the GCYL
