Colonels_Wear_Blue
From St. Henry's athletic department on Twitter: "Congrats to Coach Dave Faust for moving into a tie for 3rd place for NKY coaching boys HS basketball wins! He now has 431 to tie legendary Coach Connor of NCC and Thomas More. Ken Shields leads NKY with 460. Stan Arnzen has 452."
Colonels_Wear_Blue
That's a pretty awesome accomplishment for Coach Faust. I was checking to see where those coaches stand in the KHSAA record book, and it looks like there's a little bit of a discrepancy though. The KHSAA shows coach Tom Ellis with 615 career wins. He coached basketball at Holmes from 1944-45 thru 1966-67 after quite a while at Bardstown High School He was also Holmes' football coach...and their stadium bears his name. Coach Mike Reitz also had a 4-year stop at Campbell County not too long before retiring at Harrison County in 2012 with 560 wins. All of Kenny Shields' high school coaching experience was at St. Thomas High School and Highlands, if I'm not mistaken, before he took over at NKU. Stan Arnzen was head coach at Newport High from 1948-1970. Jim Connor was the coach at New Cath. Coached Dave Cowans, among others. Then he moved on to be head coach at TMC. Colonels_Wear_Blue
Who are some other long-time coaches in NKY aside from those mentioned? Admittedly, I don't know a whole lot about the coaching history at New Cath, but I would guess that someone additional to Jim Connor has tallied up a lot of wins with the Breds. Bill Code at St. Henry and Lloyd. Dave Afterkirk at Dixie. Bill Warfield at Conner. Reynolds Flynn at Holmes. Greg McQueary at Boone Co. Steve Wright coached at Walton Verona before going on to his success at Laurel County. I would guess Code and Flynn have the most wins in N. Ky. of those listed above.

bulldog77
I'm always fascinated by the fact that we track wins and not total games coached. I wonder who has coached the most GAMES in northern Kentucky. You put no less work in for the losses than you do for the wins, right? Just a thought.

I think he left NCC to become AD/Baseball HC at Bellarmine, mid 60's to early 70's. I remember him at Boone Co. in the 70's before becoming a two sport coach/AD at TMC. 🤷 We're talking hoops wins here, but I think Coach Connor would have over 400 wins in HS baseball too. New Cath won three state titles and was runner-up twice in the 40's and 50's while he coached there. As a second aside, George Schneider on the list above, played both sports for Coach Connor. Ted Bacigalupo, highly successful baseball and football coach at Moeller, started his playing career on The Hill back then too. Most importantly, congratulations to Coach Faust. Row Cru!
