...that's what Sheppard does. Dude is averaging 33 points per game this season.

And he is just a Sophomore right?

Yes just a sophomore.

Sheppard is amazing, and he's going to finish his career with his name among Kentucky's career leaders....

The comment above - emphasizing the fact that he's averaging 33 points per game (which is amazing) - reminded me of just how incredible Ervin "Magic" Stepp's season was in 1979-80.

I don't want to hijack the thread - just want to mention the scorer everyone gets measured against.   Stepp was the nation's leading HS scorer in 1980, and is the only KY high schooler to average over 50 ppg in a full season.   He scored 75 points in a 1980 game against Feds Creek.

The scary thing was that he averaged over 50 ppg (around 54-55, if I recall correctly) in an era WITHOUT the three point shot, AND the majority of his shots were jumpers.

I remember seeing Stepp play once...he scored 50 in a December 1979 game against Ashland in the AIT on a night when the TomCats doubled him the minute he crossed mid-court, and tripled him if he got the ball anywhere near the paint.

I hope I get to see Sheppard play while he's at North Laurel.   He's looking like he's going to be one of those once-in-a-long time shooters.   Perhaps the kind of player kids today will be talking about in 40 years ...  "I remember seeing Reed Sheppard once in a game in 2021 against....they double-teamed him all night....he still scored...."

How many points per game is North Laurel giving up a game?  Sounds like their plan is to outscore you every night.  Obviously working for them though.

My thoughts too. I was wondering if there was any defense played. 188 points, that's a lot of points for two teams to score in a game.

I was a freshman in college when 'Rex mania' hit the state.  He was then a senior at Apollo, and I remember it was kind of a craze, like a virus.  Folks driving across the state hoping to get into a game to see the Boy Wonder.  I could see this Sheppard thing, perhaps, following suit.   Athletic, dunks, scores a ton - and his Dad was (I think?) the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four for a UK title team.  That's quite a list of attributes.  Will be interesting to watch this develop.
