Nothing in that article that hasn't been rehashed a thousand times...

More pertinant article in today's paper is John Clay's article. Headline on page 1 is "There's no 'Dream' in unranked matchup" and headline on page 4 where the article is continued is "Cats and Cards have suffered serious slippage".

Final sentence in the article: "Then maybe one day each can field a basketball team its football team can be proud of." :D

Best article on UK and the fans I have read in a long time. Well done.

No the article that LRCW posted is the most pertinent article. Maybe you should try reading it. There is some great facts in the article. Such as

In his nine previous seasons at UK, his teams have won or shared seven Southeastern Conference Eastern Division championships, five overall regular-season titles and five SEC Tournament crowns. The Wildcats have advanced to four NCAA Tournament region finals (the same number as Duke, one more than North Carolina or Kansas, and only one less than Connecticut or Michigan State) and, of course, won the 1998 national championship.

In the last five seasons, Kentucky has won more games than all but four schools: Duke, Illinois, Connecticut and Gonzaga."Coaches would cut off their left arm to have his rŽsumŽ," Alabama Coach Mark Gottfried said.

And I believe the quote below is so so true.

"I think a lot of them are idiots," Cook said of unhappy fans. "For one thing, they don't have patience. And, two, I don't think they liked Tubby from the beginning."

What made you think I didn't read it???:creepy: Care to tell me what in the article hasn't been repeated many times???

Because you, along with the other 18% seem to think that the Cats should go to the Final Four and win it on a much to regular basis. I agree that there are facts in the article that have been repeated over, and over, but yet some still bash the job Tubby is doing.

I don't think you know what I think, lol...

I think Tubby has not been to the Final 4 with any player he recruited. How is that anything remotely close to thinking he should go every year?

As much as I hate to post on here anymore I feel that I have to say a few things.

THe more things that I read about UK basketball and Race the more I believe that the reason that some people who want Tubby gone is because he is African American.

I used to not believe that or I didn't want to believe it.

When ever the question has come up to some Tubby bashers,Who would they replace him with ?I have never heard an African American coach's name come up!

I have always said that the Dirt(or whatever you want to call it) always rises to the top.

Im not saying that all Tubby Bashers are against Tubby becasue of skin color but thats the impression more people from the outside looking in are getting.

Quote from C.M Newton.

The athletic director who hired Smith as Kentucky's coach, C.M. Newton, said that a small number of UK fans could not accept an African-American as UK's coach. "Anybody who thinks racism isn't alive in this country is crazy," Newton said.

Also I would like to say. Someone from one of my earlier post had something to say about my Grammar!!!If you have trouble with me or my Grammar please get with a moderator first instead of trying to publicly ridicule me!

ANY player is wrong. Saul Smith was on his 1998 National Champs. I don't think Pitino brought him in.:D :D :D

I was about to start a thread voicing the opposite opinion. It gets brought up more and more, and I just don't see it.

I think MOST people agree that Tubby is a GOOD coach, and the argument comes from whether or not he's a GREAT coach. There are plenty of arguments for both sides. To say that people only dislike him because he's black is ridiculous. Now I'm sure that there ARE a FEW people that are that racist, but I'd say its a SMALL SMALL minority.

Pro-Tubby:

very good winning %

coach of the year 3 times

won 1998 national title

more SEC titles than anyone else during his tenure

Anti-Tubby:

Only two years has a Tubby team lost fewer games than the previous year (98, 03)

has not reached a Final Four with his own recruits (tying a school record drought in the process)

inconsistent recruiting

no SEC regular season/tournament title in the last 2 years

Solid arguments on both sides. To say the anti-Tubby group must be racists because theres no other reason not to like him is ludicrous.

There are more and more people who out starting to believe this! Just ask the African American community or do they not count?

Great read LRCW. Thanks for the link.

I'm not disputing that race is a complete non issue, but it is FAR FAR FAR from the primary reason that many would like to see Tubby gone.

Like it or not, there are valid points for the anti-Tubby side, and people are ignoring them completely in order to make it a race issue. Its not.

I don't see why anyone can be mad with what tubby has done. I know people say the 98 championship was Rick P. But he coached it right? And I don't think people needs to get on tubby as much or any really. I mean just some teams might be better than us on a certain day, and we might have a bad game when we don't need one. But thats just what happens you know. And thats why we play the game because we dont know if who will win.

The fact is, a lot of people who watch UK games, feel they know more than the coaching staff does. A player misses some shots, has TO's or doesn't rebound...he's labeled or they want him out. Another has a good shooting game, few mistakes and they want him to start....he's the next great player.

Many want the style of play, to be the overriding factor, up tempo and fun to watch up/down play but winning the game, is the ultimate goal....least that's what I've always been taught. Some days, you get out played and its not meant to be but starting over, is not the answer.

"To get them to buy in, to get them to accept roles is unbelievably difficult," said Vanderbilt Coach Kevin Stallings, who formerly worked as an assistant at Kansas. "And (Smith) gets it done year in and year out. Any disenchantment or dissatisfaction that anybody would have with the job he's done is crazy."

That sounded as if Stallings was saying the much-noted basketball intelligence of UK fans was a myth. "I'm not saying they're not smart about basketball," the Vandy coach said. "But they're emotional about their own expectations."....:sssh:

As for Smith, he intends to continue winning and losing gracefully.

"The negative is not healthy," the UK coach said. "It can make you sick. It can make you stressful. It can make you do things you don't want to do. The best thing to do is not even to partake of it. "I love to win. I do all I can to win. But that's it."....:thumb:

Isn't that the goal, for UK to win and continue to improve, to strive for excellence, not appease a few fans, because they've watched some games in their time and think their basketball IQ, has exceeded some. Find a positive aspect, be constructive with criticism and hope the entire team improves, with each game.
