I'm not disputing that race is a complete non issue, but it is FAR FAR FAR from the primary reason that many would like to see Tubby gone.

 

Like it or not, there are valid points for the anti-Tubby side, and people are ignoring them completely in order to make it a race issue. Its not.

I use to not think that race had much to do with why people did not like Tubby as coach,but I feel more and more that it has alot to do with it! Im sure you don't feel that way and you know that I don't fell that way! Just ask any African American How they Feel about it!

The fact is, a lot of people who watch UK games, feel they know more than the coaching staff does. A player misses some shots, has TO's or doesn't rebound...he's labeled or they want him out. Another has a good shooting game, few mistakes and they want him to start....he's the next great player.

 

Many want the style of play, to be the overriding factor, up tempo and fun to watch up/down play but winning the game, is the ultimate goal....least that's what I've always been taught. Some days, you get out played and its not meant to be but starting over, is not the answer.

 

"To get them to buy in, to get them to accept roles is unbelievably difficult," said Vanderbilt Coach Kevin Stallings, who formerly worked as an assistant at Kansas. "And (Smith) gets it done year in and year out. Any disenchantment or dissatisfaction that anybody would have with the job he's done is crazy."

 

That sounded as if Stallings was saying the much-noted basketball intelligence of UK fans was a myth. "I'm not saying they're not smart about basketball," the Vandy coach said. "But they're emotional about their own expectations."....:sssh:

 

As for Smith, he intends to continue winning and losing gracefully.

 

"The negative is not healthy," the UK coach said. "It can make you sick. It can make you stressful. It can make you do things you don't want to do. The best thing to do is not even to partake of it. "I love to win. I do all I can to win. But that's it."....:thumb:

 

Isn't that the goal, for UK to win and continue to improve, to strive for excellence, not appease a few fans, because they've watched some games in their time and think their basketball IQ, has exceeded some. Find a positive aspect, be constructive with criticism and hope the entire team improves, with each game.

The bolded is so true with so many fans. Having played football for UK, and now being a High School coach, it is difficult to watch UK football games with "All-Knowing" fans. There are so many intracacies to the games, which is why players and coaches spend so many hours a week practicing and in the film room. It's not like anyone could do it. It takes special people to be on the sidelines, or on the court or playing field. But fans, in general, don't really understand what it takes to play and or coach the game, especially at such a high level.

So many people dogging UKs offence. I think the offence looked great except for one thing'They could not hit a shot from outside except for Meeks! If they would knock down more shots from outside the half court offence would be more exciting! Tubby can't shoot the ball for them!

Bottom line is a lot of people expect the Cats in the Final Four every year but if they were and did not get to every title game many of you complaining today would still complain. Then if they did get to the final game every year but did not win you would complain because they were "just" runner-ups. I bet when you all played and/or coached you all had perfect seasons each year.

If you think that Coach Smith isn't doing a good job that's your opinion, but for the life of me I can't think of one program in the country that you would be happy with. Duke, UNC, Kansas, UConn, Mich St., UL, Florida have all had many disapoinments over the past few years. Early exits out of the tourney, loosing to a lower seed and some completely missing the NCAA (some more than once). NCAA Basketball is the most competitively equal sport in America today.

 

For those of you that keep mentioning the 98 team was not Tubby's team, I have seen quotes from two different players from that team that said they would not have beat Duke let alone win the NCAA if not for the coaching of Coach Smith. He made adjustments that the previous coach would not have made that led to them coming back against Duke and then winning it all.

:thumb: Agree on everything!!! As far as the 98 team If some people are going to say Tubby only won the game because it was Pitinos team then I wish Pitino would have left after 96! Tubby does a better job coaching Ricks teams! No offence to the Louisville fans I think you know where Im comming from!

No final fours with any of Tubby's players. Not ranked last year or this year. Lower the goals. And once again, UK fans have a very high basketball IQ. They just don't like to lose, which aggravates those who don't mind losing so much, or make excuses for losing...

What makes you think anyone has lowered there goals? Sometimes when people set high goals doesn't mean they get what they want right away! It doesn't work like a microwave!

As much as I hate to post on here anymore I feel that I have to say a few things.

THe more things that I read about UK basketball and Race the more I believe that the reason that some people who want Tubby gone is because he is African American.

I used to not believe that or I didn't want to believe it.

When ever the question has come up to some Tubby bashers,Who would they replace him with ?I have never heard an African American coach's name come up!

I have always said that the Dirt(or whatever you want to call it) always rises to the top.

Im not saying that all Tubby Bashers are against Tubby becasue of skin color but thats the impression more people from the outside looking in are getting.
