Compared to Summa Theologica, The Stand is a pamphlet.

I had the honor of meeting Sonia Kaplan on a family trip to Washington DC two years ago. We visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Mrs. Kaplan was there signing books.

My wife and I were able to meet her, chat for a minute or so, get a picture, and have her autograph the copy of her book we purchased. Unfortunately, due to the busy nature of life, I hadn't had a chance to read the book until the last few days. I'm so glad I picked it up and started....it's REALLY good. 

For those of you with an interest in this time frame, I highly recommend it. For those of you that may be teachers or have children you want to educate on this period...other than The Diary of Anne Frank, this may be the next best education piece. It does a wonderful job laying the foundation of what Kaplan's life was like as a Jewish child in Poland pre-war (her daily rituals, her family's dedication to their faith, what life was like, etc.) and then the book packs a powerful wallop that begins when the Nazis invaded Poland. 

A magnificent read and yet another remind of why it's so important to appreciate what we have and find the blessings around you every day.
