Not sure how anyone can say widespread testing will never occur.

Personally, I prefer to look at constructive possibilities to get people back to work than saying no, never, and seemingly to revel in the possibility that people who have never financially been hurt before, may be hurting now.

That being said, I am done with this particular topic. We can politely agree to disagree.

Nobody is saying we'll never get back to work. You asked if we could safely return to work soon, your question was answered.

Also, nobody is reveling in the fact that people who've never had financial troubles are having them now. We are simply asking, why hasn't this always been an issue to most people, and why is it only an issue now? That's not a question specifically for you, but one for anyone that cares to answer.

My point remains the same. "Just now" means with the Coronavirus. All the things we are seeing because of the shut downs are not new, they are just affecting different people than usual.

So again, why is it just now a problem?

Numbers. That is why it is just now a problem. The numbers of those affected now are massively more than BCV19.

It's not numbers. It's demographics, IMO.

Those of us that believe in the importance of a strong economy, believe in it because it improves virtually everybodies lives, in almost every way. Always has, always will.

And, if you want to call it selfish, my life is better because more people are living a better life.

Over the last 3 years of this booming economy.

Crime is down.

Divorce rates are down.

Drug overdoses are down.

A bad economy affects everybody at every level.

You do understand that this is the same mentality and language used to excuse slavery? One of the main fears of ending slavery was that it would destroy the economy. The entire economy was held up and propped up by slavery.

I just want to make sure we are clear on this.

A strong economy has never benefitted everyone and it definitely hasn’t improved everyone’s life. That’s a myth.

So it's a problem because people that don't usually have to deal with these issues have to temporarily deal with them. Got it.

Also, can you provide your sources for the "stats" you posted?

Exactly. It’s always about demographics.

The economy affects us all doesn’t it? That’s what everyone keeps saying over and over and over and over.

And for the record I’d be saying the same thing if I was collecting an unemployment check.

Some of you all act like you have never experienced financial hardship in your life before.

COVID-19 is killing blacks at a higher rate in America than any other race. I’ll be sure to let my family know that the economy and the fate of the unemployed are more important than their lives.

Did I say the economy was more important? Did I say I was experiencing financial hardship at all now? I am just pointing out that what you are saying, is no different than what the younger generation is saying. In terms of only thinking from one side, and saying the other side should just deal with it. It is always easy for someone to say just deal with it, when your not in that situation.

I have experienced financial hardship growing up in a single parent home. Having to have food stamps to buy groceries, mom on and off of unemployment for awhile when growing up, moving a lot because of not able to afford rent. So yes I have been there in the past. The economy right now though has had zero effect on me, as financially I am good. Financially my family is doing just fine too. So the economy has had zero effect on me or my family now.

My students families in the inner city school district I teach in aren’t doing just fine. Those parents who had just now no longer have jobs, and struggling to still get unemployment set up are not doing just fine. Which I have spoke to many of those families myself to know that, and they are stressing over money and not having a job more than the illness part. So you are going at the wrong person here, with what you were trying to come at me with in reference to something there.

For me personally the virus itself effects my family more on the illness side than financial side, in terms of my family. As my grandma is 94 years old, my mom has a bad immune disorder, my dad has been sick for the last two years. My point is yes it is easier to say others should be fine and just have to deal with it, when it might not be effecting you the same way. That’s no different than the young generation who are acting like the Virus is no big deal, and people should just deal with it, because it doesn’t effect them.

I have practiced the social distancing from the beginning, same with my family. We will continue to do that too. So for me yes the fear of death with the illness effects me a lot more than the economy. With that said just because that is where it effects me most, doesn’t mean I am going to sit here and say well all these other people that the economy does effect more just need to deal with it. You are acting like the only ones concerned with the economy are the rich or businesses, when that is simply not true.

At the end of the day this is something everyone is experiencing for the first time in their lives. Which it is going to effect everyone in different ways. At the end of the day the answer probably lies somewhere in the middle. So no need for anyone to be acting like someone should be just fine and can deal with it, when you are not the ones in their shoes knowing how it effects them. This has effected everyone in a different way.

You are exactly right. It definitely affects everyone in different ways.

And I am 100% sure that once this is all over no one will have learned anything and we will continue on with things the way we always have.

That’s the frustrating part of all of this for me. The disenfranchised are still the disenfranchised. The disenfranchised are getting hit by this worse than anyone. Before this we didn’t give a crap about the disenfranchised and after this we still won’t give a crap about them. THOSE are the people I feel bad for. The people who can’t afford to 1.) effectively social distance 2.) have no job, no money, no food 3.) no healthcare. It’s already been proven we could have helped soooooo many of them and we still continue to do nothing.

You say don’t come at you but you quoted me first when I am just getting started on the hypocrisy of our society. All those people you mentioned in your post are the people we continually turn our backs on whether The Rona is here or not. This is who we are.

You notice how when The Rona hit NOBODY cares about these people. The focus is on the economy and re-opening the country. Not one time has the focus ever been on how do we take care of these people during this pandemic that needed help before this to take care of themselves. You know why, because we let them die. Same thing we always have done. We let the disenfranchised die.

Like I said earlier, I’m more worried about how this will affect my family’s physical beings. The economy can kiss my butt.

So no need for anyone to be acting like someone should be just fine and can deal with it, when you are not the ones in their shoes knowing how it effects them.

The irony.

Horse crap not the same arguement. In fact it was the arguement to end slavery.

Slavery was immoral and not a good economic system.

But make sure you turn it to racism.

I’m not going to apologize for being black and intelligent but mainly I’m not going to apologize for being black. Relearn history.

And it’s institutionalized racism not racism. Two different things. But you knew that already didn’t you?

In fact it was the arguement to end slavery.

Slavery was immoral and not a good economic system.

"Defenders of slavery argued that the sudden end to the slave economy would have had a profound and killing economic impact in the South where reliance on slave labor was the foundation of their economy. The cotton economy would collapse. The tobacco crop would dry in the fields. Rice would cease being profitable.

Defenders of slavery argued that if all the slaves were freed, there would be widespread unemployment and chaos. This would lead to uprisings, bloodshed, and anarchy. They pointed to the mob's "rule of terror" during the French Revolution and argued for the continuation of the status quo, which was providing for affluence and stability for the slaveholding class and for all free people who enjoyed the bounty of the slave society."
