He just seemed like he was prickling at having someone dislike his take. To borrow from your post, VOR, when you write something like this, "you have to learn to live with a target on you."

 

I didn't take that as necessarily just the personal opinion of @PP1. I think he stated what he views as how everyone outside CCH looks at that district game versus Holy Cross. And I think he is right.

I think his criticism is more the calling a spade a spade. You seem to have a pretty open distaste for CCH.

That's fine if that's your position. There are programs around that I don't like either. There are opinion columns out there, and then there's reporting the news. They're different things.

 

If you're going to voice an opinion publicly, shouldn't it be fair game for somoeone to challenge or criticize your opinion publicly?

 

When I was reading @PP1 (‘s) review before even considering that anyone might take objection to it other than the typical “I think that Team X should be higher than Team Y”, I thought when I read “The entire state of Kentucky is rooting for the Indians in their district match-up next week”, that he was exactly right.

I’m a CovCath guy and I sure didn’t have my feelings hurt. When you go to an all-boys school for four years you tend to grow thick skin. It makes sense to me that the state would want CCH to lose, but I agree with TheOracle and RuncibleOwl that there have been some comments that have come off as bias against Cov Cath. JMO.

Holy Cross needs to make the game a fast, paced full open court game to have any chance. The Indians have offensive fire power.

What is the 1 game in a 100 you actually root for the Colonels?

 

When Dan Tieman, or Mike Listerman was the head coach for CovCath, I still mostly rooted for them under most situations, however growing up an inner city Covington kid I then, and still often do root for Holy Cross and Holmes to take them down.

 

Being more from the urban fold, I even feel more Newportish than I do Park Hills, Lakeside Park, Ft. Wright, Ft. Mitchell, so I often times like to see the likes of NewCath or Newport take them down too.

 

When the Colonels won the 2014 State Tournament under Ruthsatz I got so excited that I cried. My dad was a ‘37 grad of CovCath, and my brother a ‘72 grad of CovCath, so there was a family tradition thing swimming in mind, as well as a 9th Region thing that made me feel proud of them.

 

As things have progressed since, and bridging on certain things about their program that I’m probably not allowed to directly address, I’ve become increasingly disenchanted by them, and firstly like to see them get beat (though it rarely happens) by any team within the 8th, 9th, or 10th regions.

 

In recent 9th Region tournaments I was rooting for Cooper the year they won, and NewCath the year they won. Funny thing is that I sit directly next to my brother for every 9th Region tourney game and won’t ever dare tell him that I’m not rooting for the Colonels. LOL

 

The years previous to 2010 when Holmes was a powerhouse, I rooted against the Colonels too

 

I’m not all about being a Colonel hater exactly, but I’m more of a 9th Region enthusiast than I could ever be simply a “Be true to my school” Colonel fan, and now more than ever I’m fine with them, even though I’m a 9th Region guy, losing to any team in the state of Kentucky. I was cool with Male beating them. When any team not named CovCath makes it to the Sweet 16 I am all in a 9th Region supporter.

 

8th and 10th too when teams like Simon Kenton, Walton, Scott, Campbell Co, or Brossart make a good showing.

 

I must admit that when they made their miraculous comeback in the first round game against Scott County last year I was really pulling for them to pull it off in coming back from being down by 20 most of the game.

 

I was pulling for them this year against prep school Oak Hill, and I was happy to see them win the tourney in Florida. I like to see them beat Ohio teams, but now I’m pretty much fine with any team in the state of Kentucky beating them, and that’s saying something because in the past with me it was all 9th Region no matter what.

 

So 99 out of 100 was figuratively speaking I suppose, but with what I’ve said here I think that you get the picture.

I’d also like to add that before anyone gets the impression that I was a troubled inner-city kid attending CovCath back in the day, I had perfect attendance for 4 years, was promoted to honors courses after my freshman year of scoring fantastic grades in the academic courses. Made decent grades the rest of the way, and only had to stay an hour after school in detention twice in 4 years.

 

With that said, and with all of my accomplishments, not being from the suburbs, and not being a star athlete, it was still quite a challenge to earn much respect from a good portion of the other kids. I’d be lying if I were to say all, as there were indeed some kids who treated me fairly.

 

Looking back though, I honestly wish that I had attended Holy Cross instead where I probably would not have had so much the same homogenized experience that I had at CovCath, and where I would have likely enjoyed my days there much more rather than just trying my best to get through it.

 

I know that for some it must have been exciting, but for me it was as dull as the day is long, not to mention witnessing the whole entitlement thing right in my face on the daily, or the hyper-charged sophomoric jock over-the-top male ego thing, and this is coming from a guy who loves sports.

 

Coming from a very old styled inner-city Catholic grade school with nuns, and a stern disciplinarian priest that you didn’t dare cross, and had to wear a dress shirt and tie everyday, it instantly absolutely blew my mind to see the out-of-this-world disrespect some of the students had for certain teachers if they thought that they were “weird”.

 

I couldn’t even imagine speaking to my elders that way when I was in grade school. Thankfully, some of those students didn’t last very much past freshman year, but often times if they played football, they were backed by some of the meatheaded coaches with similar mentalities, and the so-called “weird” teachers didn’t last more than a year.

 

Some of those teachers I felt sorry for because apparently they weren’t aware of the culture they were entering into when they first took a job teaching there, just as I had no clue of the culture that I was entering into when I followed family tradition and decided to attend there.

 

Sometimes with the mistreated teachers, the classroom would turn into a chaotic farce that left me with my mouth dropped to the floor. I didn’t feel any power to do it, but looking back I wish that I would have stood up for those teachers, and ordered the rest of the class to shut the hell up, and behave themselves like the gentlemen they were supposed to be. Still I know that they would’ve just laughed in my face, and threw pennies at me too when I’d turn my back.

 

I have to believe that things are in much better control there than when I attended in the late 70’s and early 80’s. There are certain factors that you probably can’t get very much around regarding the homogenized/entitlement thing, but all in all I have to believe with the new buildings, and atmosphere that the experience there is much better than before.
