I don't think some of you realize how small Harrodsburg school was! From what I hear If they had not merged Harrodsburg might not have been able to dress a football team!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Harrodsburg has somehow managed to a field a team for decades, even with low numbers.

 

Considering that five of the seven Mercer County players on the Danville newspaper's all-area team were former Hogs, I would say the Titans got pretty significant contributions from across town.

And they were declining more and more year after year! Man we got beat by NCC and there a somethings that I could sit around and complain about but I don't! I guess when your Danville you win like champions and you lose like champions! You get over it,win or lose and get ready for next season!

The all area team means nothing!!! Danvilles B.J. strode was the best offensive player on the team and in my opinion the MVP of the ADs season!He did not get on the all area team! Not to take anything away from the kids that made it,but that list was a popularity contest!:ylsuper:

As a Russell fan I think Mercer did have an advantage. You can say Harrodsburg was small and barely had enough for a football team. But then you look at what Mercer got from those limited numbers. Alot of speed and with alot of Varsity experience. That sure didn't hurt.

 

As for the state championship. It was a tough game between two evenly matched teams that could have gone either way with a different break here or there. It was very entertaining although not very satisfying from the Russell point of view.

 

Do I agree with the KHSAA's decision? No I don't. Do I understand it? Yes I do. Do I feel like Russell got robbed. Maybe, but they had every opportunity to win that game and none of it would have mattered. Mercer won under the circumstances that were given and they earned the AA state title.

Combine Belfry and Prestonsburg and what do you have? State Champion. Combine Russell and Raceland and what do you have? State champion. I just find it nauseating that so many Mercer fans are proud of what happened at the expense of all the players in 2-A. That sickens me.

Your first illustration makes no sense. Belfry and P'burg are 40 miles apart. Why would the combine?

 

Russell and Raceland make much more sense. They are maybe 3 miles apart.

Is Merser the state champ? Yes. They can thank KHSAA for that not Russell, or any other team they played. When you combine two varsity football teams into one, and the KHSAA allows it to happen everyone else looses. They turned thier backs on all the other teams in 2-A. I still find it hard to believe that the KHSAA approved it to happen. I can tell you one thing there is no accountability in KHSAA. In most organizations if you were to turn your head like KHSSA did in this situation you would be looking for another job.

Jeepman and MVP06 don't need counseling. They obviously care alot about the Russell program. This was a very peculiar situation. They are venting and stating how they feel. There is nothing wrong with that.

Just to way in on this hypothetical question. If you combined Russell and Raceland, YES. And it wouldn't have been close. Raceland had a very talented team with alot of speed.

 

But thats just my opinion.

Im just saying to the people that are more upset to get over it! As far as Danville goes,as a fan there were some things that happend in that game I disagree with,but Im not bringing it up a week and a half after the game has been played!I would understand the Russell fans being upset if Mercer had run all over them,but it was anybodys game! Russell is a class program and Im sure that they will be fine! Goodluck next year!

I'm not one bit upset with Mercer. It's the KHSAA that polices kids that move from one town to another and they put them under a microscope. thats who I'nm concerned about. Truely my concerns are not only for what happened, but what is going to happen. I'm just making it well know that when you are put into a position of trust and decision making you can't be asleep at the wheel. They get paid to perform duties and I'm putting them in check. I don't quit understand why more people are not concerned with KHSAA actions. Or should we just stand back and let them do what they want and another Merger happens with the same results.

I would like to see some other group take over KHSAA! At least Give it a try! Sometimes change is needed!
