List Your Final Class AA Top 5 for 2006

Just to way in on this hypothetical question. If you combined Russell and Raceland, YES. And it wouldn't have been close. Raceland had a very talented team with alot of speed.

But thats just my opinion.

I watched Raceland this year and I watched Russell...both are good teams....but my point is just because two schools merge does not guarantee a championship. THATS WHY THEY PLAY THE GAMES!

Mercer was the best team in AA no matter what anyone thinks. Russell was right there. I would like to add that I believe that game by corey jackson in the finals was courageous. After that hit he took by wills he played the rest of the game with a seperated shoulder. With ford getting hurt shortly after jackson put the team on his good shoulder and put enough points on the board to pull out the hard earned victory. But Russell had an outstanding team. I just wanted to give some props to #2.

You are very right. It does not guarantee anything. But let's be real for one minute. You combine Raceland and Russell and keep them in the same class 2-AA ????? Hello McFly.

Yes that is why they play the games. Like I said. ITS JUST MY OPINION. You don't have to agree with it.

Good lord get over it. You're going to have people referring to Russell as "Whine Country" if this keeps up. Mercer was the best team and won it on the field, where it is supposed to be won. Go work on kickoffs and extra points and get back to me.

It's not only Russell fans talking about this, it's also the rest of 2A and everyone Mercer played during the playoffs but Russell was the last so that's what you'll hear. I don't think it's whining at all, I've read numerous posts of Russell faithfull giving Mercer credit but they're also allowed to speak their mind concerning the situation and facts are facts and people are not happy about it. About the comment on extra points, if you want to take cheap shots go to a bar but please don't patronize the kids, they deserve more than that.

You are WAY wrong.

I don't know of any Mercer fan who would agree with that statement. Mecer was the better team on Dec 1st. The score board showed it. The difference is Mercer was able to get it done in all three areas - Offense, defense and special teams. Russell is a very good football team that is very well coached, they were pretty even defensively, they were pretty even offensively, but special teams were the difference. Mercer was better.

I think that's your ego talking. I don't really want to get into this very deep but do you honestly think Mercer scored that 2nd touchdown? Also if my memory is correct, Mercer scored the extra point on a busted play. That's not called execution it's called catching a break and Russell could not catch one all game, not one. If Russell gets a correct call on that 4th and goal play, they win the game. If they're ahead in the 2nd half I can bet the farm that they're not throwing the ball and making thoses turnovers. I also feel if they would have stuck to their guns they would have won anyway. But either way, their defense played well enough to win the game whether they scored again or not. I truely feel that Russell was the better team and I spoke to many many Mercer fans who agreed with that and felt very fortunate to leave Louisville with a win. The score does not always show who the better team and the best team doesn't always win. I've spoken to many unbias knowledgable attendees from niether Russell or Mercer who would tell you the exact same thing. Try asking a non-partisant that's from niether Mercer nor Russell and see what they say.

I would agree with everything you have indicated.

Over the years , we've lost tougher games and ended up tougher for it ...

Like Ivan said in 2005 these things "state championships" build over several years ...

The program is in fine shape and well positioned to keep rolling .... Every kid in Russell - Flatwoods plays in the JFL ... Coaching staff knows the way to the carpet and what it takes ,,,

What are the Devils going to have coming back .... Which Sophmores to be steps in , many of the kids over the last two years played as Sophmores .... Whose next to star in Friday Night Lights a top Red Devil Hill ...

Certainly have some good players coming back .. 8 ,13 ,75,74, 38 ...

I am neither from Russell or Mercer and I have to agree with UKCATSFAN. Russell should have won that ball game.

Many of us agree but it's history now .... and I can't afford any more therapy .. during the shock treatment I thought one of the ink spots looked like the Scotty ...

The 2006 2A championship trophy is at Mercer County Senior High School, where it should be.

Our defense won the ballgame for us by coming up with the big plays when we needed it!

Russell played a great game. Good luck next year!

Typical. Good luck next year in 5A

You're one to talk about ego. Yes I think it was a touchdown. The ball was fumbled and recovered by a Mercer player, and by high school rules it was a touchdown.

Since you want to bring the refs into it. No one ever seems to mention the horrible non call by the refs on Clark's offensive pass interference on forth down that extended one of the Russell scoring drive. So please don't please don't try to blame the refs. All in all I think it was an evenly officiated ball game.

I've talked to nonpartison people, and some Russell people. They all said it was a great football game by two very good football teams, and that special teams was the difference.

Try accepting a hard fought loss.
