With the fallout of this past week, the top spot in the final 3A rankings is up for grabs. A few different teams may have a legitimate claim, but all have strikes against them.

 

DeSales - The Colts have been #1 for a big chunk of the season, and they have a solid resume with wins over CAL, Paducah Tilghman, and Mercer County. But they suffered arguably the worst loss of any 3A contender this season against Meade County last Friday.

 

Belfry - They're a familiar name at the top of 3A, and have an impressive win over LCA on their resume. Their losses are to Johnson Central (unbeaten, 4A #1), Pikeville (unbeaten, 1A #1), and Kettering Alter (OH). The competitive loss to Alter has lost some of its shine with the Knights absorbing a few losses since then, and the wound from the JC shellacking is fresh.

 

Ashland - The Tomcats have some good wins - Ironton (OH), Russell, Raceland, and George Washington (WV) - but whiffed badly at a golden opportunity to make a play for #1 by getting manhandled by a strong Spring Valley (WV) team.

 

Bell County - The only remaining unbeaten in the class, but they hold that distinction based largely on their sub-par schedule, which is easily the worst of any ranked team in 3A. Their best wins are against solid, but hardly great, teams like Harlan County and Whitley County.

I know it won’t happen because they’ve been I ranked most of the season in this poll but I really believe Glasgow should get some consideration for at least top 5 they have one lost by one point to a quality ranked 5A team they took care of business against their other two quality opponents in Taylor and Franklin and destroyed everyone else but Casey but that game was played in a monsoon with their starting tailback watching from the sidelines and they’re 5th in the AP and 6th in the RPI.

I don't have the slightest clue who to put there being there are several who are worthy.

 

With that said, I don't think it really matters. 3A is gonna be an absolute wild ride through the playoffs and anyone in the top 10 winning it would not surprise me in the least.

 

Lots of similar styles of play on both sides of the ball should create some good matchups and on a given night, I think most of these teams could beat each other and there isn't another class that can claim that.

This is a tough call. If I had to pick one team to win it in 3A I would take DeSales but it seems to be wide open. You can't sleep on Etown or Glasgow or even Bardstown. All 3 are under the radar but can do some damage.

I would predict that whichever team comes out of the DeSales/CAL/Mercer county district, will win the class 3A championship. IMO this is the toughest district in the state, regardless of class. I would probably still have DeSales at the top, to answer the question posed by the treads creator, but couldn’t blame anyone for putting Belfry, or Ashland or Bell there, after last weeks performance by DeSales. Going to be an exciting playoff!

I think so. In my opinion there are 12 teams based on results thus far and potential RPI matchups that are capable of playing in the state semifinals.

Desales wasn’t resting starters. Meade Co has its team healthy for the 1st time all season. Meade was using its 3rd and 4th string QB all season and has been without one of the top RB’s in the state. They all played Friday and your saw the outcome.

I think Central Hardin will be in a dogfight Friday night against Meade County. I think Central Hardin coaching staff has failed to allow starting RB Deonco Wilkerson time to recover from a severe ankle sprain by playing him the last two weeks. I am convinced that he won't be right the rest of the season and has been operating at 50-60% with no positive impact on the field and no explosiveness. If I had to pick a score Friday night?
